Lower Don Lands Redevelopment | Waterfront Toronto l u/c

This gorgeous Wilkinson Eyre pedestrian bridge design called “Equinox” was won the international design competition for a new pedestrian connecting Quayside to the new parks of Villiers Island over the Keating Channel.

Indigenous consultants Two Row Architect and Zeidler were on the design team. The orientation of the bridge’s curves align with the summer solstice sunset and the winter solstice sunrise. The Feds have kicked in $9million towards construction.

The winning design also complements the curves of all the other new bridges. Below you can glimpse the Cherry Street twins and the 2 span Commissioners Street Bridge, in front of the of the large Pinewood Studios complex on the eastern part of the Portlands.

Great drawings and updates koops!

Though barely visible, like the colour change of cladding on SkyTower's tower floors. Closer to the photos of the project.

Thanks...

There are now 97 built skyscrapers in Toronto. https://skyscraperpage.com/diagrams/?searchID=105235419

Which one of the topped off towers will be #100?

Your progress diagrams are greatly appreciated, koops, as are your photo updates, Maldive. I'm presently out in the wilderness and virtually incommunicado.

It seems there are very few new towers commencing at the moment in Toronto, but the pace should pick up again when interest rates go down, as is anticipated in June.

If that's the case, you'll have a Norman Foster building directly overlooking another Norman Foster building from that vantage point. Kinda cool. Something you would likely only find in London, NY, and possibly Dubai. And now Toronto.

I have read that the condo market in Toronto is in the tank at the moment. I suspect not, but is anyone here able to expand on that with some industry insight? I gather it will improve again in coming months?

I am sure like most NA cities t has to do with high interest rates for both buyers and developers.

The market is indeed in the tank.

Its not that nothing is moving, but sales are way off.

Interest rates are definitely a crucial factor.

Launches are off, at least one launched project has been pulled from the market, and several projects that have launched, that 3 years ago would have sold out in a week or three, are still on the market months and months later.

The odd well positioned project is still doing fine, but yeah, all is not well.

***

Will it fully recover if interest rates drop? Maybe. I certainly expect it to uptick a bit. Some projects may come back as rental for which incentives have drastically improved.

But I think the question of how much of an interest rate drop is necessary is open. I don't think a 50 basis point drop will bring back the boom, but 100 points will certainly lubricate sales.

But there lots of other intermingling factors. As it stands, I would expect some market acceleration by fall, subject to at least 2 interest rate cuts.

But its a wait and see thing right now.
