From the San Diego Reader, "Manchester Rumored to Drop Austin Hotel"

For those of you that get a "Woody" from the rumor mill, I thought I would share what our friend's on the left coast have to say about the status of the project...

Thanks but that's old news... that paper is a competitor of the manchester owned paper. These foundless rumor pieces have been coming out every month. Check out the comment section. If nothing happens by end of June I might be concerned. BTW... who are you repping 4REALATX?

You are right.

According to Don Bauder writer of the article, posted in the comment section, he says rumor isn't true:

Papa Doug added that the rumor may have been started by competitors. "We are committed to the project. We are not giving up by any means," Papa Doug told the spokesperson. Best, Don Bauder.

So they deliberately published an article that they knew was probably false and then did not go back and edit that article once a quote to the contrary was proffered by Manchester? (They just added a comment below)... That's journalistic malpractice.

We'll see after 90 days, but I'm starting to not be positive about this project.

Another step forward!!! Looks as if the development budget has increased...by $20MM to $370MM.

The current, released plans call for a tower of 691' (when including the spire); however, I hope that could stretch another 9' so Austin would have an official 700-footer.

With SXSW done, at least we'll be able to interpret better what activities are happening at the lot. Need to keep an eye on it. I sure hope it happens, and at the orignal scale.

Oh it is definitely needed, no doubt that Austin will absorb these hotel rooms.

AMAZING. I was just on that big hill in Butler Park today (which has an unmatched panoramic view of the skyline I found, and I counted 9 different cranes from that single viewpoint), and I was thinking how massive the impact of this tower would be, and I was all "please get your sh!t together, Fairmont." So this is super awesome.

P.S. I'll take this opportunity to make a quick announcement that I am officially moved to Austin (!), as of the weekend before last. So thrilled to witness this amazing period in the history of the city. It's like heaven on earth for an construction-obsessed urbanist nerd such as myself. Glad to become a part of the community.

Southside actually not far from me, kinda between where me and Kevin lives, though he's closer to where Kevin lives.
