Image taken August 1 along Wilson Street.

Walked by today and site was very busy with activity, I noticed that the new area they are excavating had A LOT of red bricks that were under the asphalt parking lot which I thought was pretty interesting.

Took a look at HistoryPin and there is one picture in this area next to the church with the following image and discription

"Fire which started at the rear of the I.O.O.F. Temple, a large five-storey building on Gore Street (now Wilson Street), swept through the building early in the morning of Saturday November 4, 1939. The fire was reported at 4a.m. The building was completely gutted. Costly regalia, records and equipment owned by 12 lodges that used the upper floors for their meetings were all destroyed. The loss from the fire was estimated to exceed $100,000.00 which was covered by insurance."

Guess at some point after the fire they might have just knocked down what was left of the building and covered it in dirt.

It was common at the time and up to the late 20th century to just bury bricks of buildings that were demolished. When we dug up our garden bed in our backyard there were enough buried bricks to build a 3 brick tall retaining wall that is about 15' long.

Turns out I'm a terrible mason and bricklaying is harder work than it looks.

Went past here this morning on the way to West Harbour and there was considerable activity (no photos sorry).

Also noticed a big Rosehaven coming soon sign at the site of the former bus station/health centre.

Not much has physically changed about this site so no worries, but yes it's packed with work. Emblem doesn't mess around. Once they get started it seems they work at full tilt.

Yes - Emblem moves faster generally than most GTA builders. Not as fast as some (Centrecourt throws up buildings at basically twice the speed of many builders) - but faster than average for sure.

This one will go quick because it has no basement levels. This will probably be finished and occupied over a year before Television City because of that, as Television City has 5 levels of underground to build first.

We'll probably be at above-grade construction here before Television City even finishes excavation.

Are they building all three towers at once?

The building permit is for all 3 - but that doesn't mean they are going to act on it necessarily. We'll have to see when construction gets there:

Quote:
The proposed development at 41 Wilson St., Hamilton, ON L8R 1C6 consists of 3 high rise towers each reaching 31 stories connected by a 8 storey podium with total gross floor area of 92,349m2 including parking (there are no below grade levels). Retail space is located on the Ground/Mezzanine level. A total of 75,219m2 and 931 units of residential space as well as a total of 1,667m2 of at grade retail space (located on the Ground & Mezzanine levels) are proposed

How do you know Television City has 5 floors of underground levels? I don't think we've ever seen the detailed architectural documents for that project.

I wanted to get an aerial shot to get an idea if they're building all three phases, or just the first two. Looks to me like they are preparing the site's foundation for all three.

Taken today.

Just wanted to bring this image back to the top. I'm pretty excited for this development, it's really going to change the feel of this part of downtown.

They've begun excavating soil down about half a metre on about half the site. I wouldn't be surprised if we see concrete starting to pour here in the next two weeks. Look out for rebar this week!

Tax increment grant up at council. Emblem asking for a $5.6 million tax break.

The development will take this plot of land from an assessed value of $4.3 million to $223 million, a 5100% increase.

The city is expected to receive $2.3 million in annual property taxes from the development. The grant would waive taxes on the first year, 75% on the second year, 50% third year, and 25% in the fourth year, for a total of $5.6 million.
