I've always heard they were very good.

From Wikipedia

With permanent seating totalling 35,650, the stadium is the fifth-largest stadium in Canada. It was expanded in several stages from its original 22,000-seat capacity in 1960 to 38,205 in 1988.

More recent renovations in 2001 and 2005, in which luxury boxes replaced bleacher seating in the higher rows of the grandstands, reduced the stadium capacity to 37,317 in 2001, and to its current 35,650 in 2005. In 2007, Calgary Stampeders president Ted Hellard proposed a further reduction of the stadium's capacity by approximately 4,200 seats to accommodate further luxury boxes, with renovations to be underwritten with personal seat licenses.

For special events such as Grey Cup games, temporary bleachers have been built in the facility's end zones. These seats accounted for a record 46,020 spectators at the 97th Grey Cup, between the Montreal Alouettes and Saskatchewan Roughriders on November 29, 2009.

^ The last bad sightlines in the CFL were eliminated when the Argos left Skydome and its low-raked 100 level.

I guess those new stands they put in at old mosaic back in 2013 are already spoken for? I was thinking those 5-6000 seats would be ideal for a soccer stadium in Regina or Saskatoon when the CSL starts up in the next year or so. Minimal cost given they were already paid for by the Riders so I imagine the only expense would be transporting them and rebuilding them.

Since we are talking about old stadiums here is a video of Osborne Stadium in Winnipeg - home of the Bombers and many other teams up until 1953.

https://vimeo.com/43772530

10 yard end zones!? 100 yard field?! And no 55-yard line?! Boy those Winnipeggers were quite the NFL wannabees back in the day.

Yes, the recipients were determined a little while ago, see this link for the list and number of seats each got.

A running track in Edmonton can't be conducive to good sight lines.

The track doesn't impede the sight lines at all. Last I check a running track was at surface level outside the field, nothing to block your view....

But they do put spectators further away from the field.
I hate tracks around football stadiums for that reason.

Thanks for all the links to old & refurbished stadiums - I love it!

When i think of bad sightlines i dont just think of my view being impeded. Distance to the field and rake of the seating bowl comes into play.

Over 41,000 at Commonwealth for the Esks/Riders game last night. Exemplifying the ssupport for all things sports in the city of Edmonton, which includes fanatic support for the Oilers as well as the recent Women's World Cup. Maybe FIFA really doesn't care about the stature of the city, or world renowned cities that say Toronto/Montreal/Vancouver may be considered, rather confidence in fan support with an undoubtably suitable stadium, both of which Edmonton satisfies. Any other city in the country at this point in time really can't say the same... I'm confident Edmonton will be chosen as one of the cities to host the World Cup of Soccer, especially because conversion back to grass playing surface wouldn't be as costly as it would for Montreal and Vancouver.

Or.. how about maybe Rider fans always historically travel well, especially the former Sask resident in Alberta who always show up in the thousands to show support during Eskies and Stamps games.

Go look at CFLdb you will see the Stamps and Eskies always get a big spike when the Riders come to town.

All the more reason to award the WC to Edmonton, knowing they can garner even more support from the province to the east.

Nothing against Edmonton but there is zero "risk" of low or even lower support for a WC in any of Canada's three largest cities.

The track at Molson Stadium is not regulation width, it's extremely narrow and is probably not suited for much more than low-level track meets. I doubt any serious competition takes place there. Because of its narrow width, I doubt it has much impact on the sightlines... the sideline areas there don't seem much wider than what you'd see elsewhere in the league. I admit it's been a few years since I was last at a game there myself, but I certainly don't remember the sightlines being an issue at Molson.

I think the issue with tracks is when you have a soccer/football team playing in a stadium designed primarily for track and field... that's when you end up with the situation of fans being a huge distance away from the field. This type of scenario simply doesn't exist in Canada... even stadiums that are capable of handling high-level competitive track events (essentially only the Big O and Commonwealth) have much narrower sidelines than this:

I thought maximum posts in a thread wasn't an issue anymore? There are many threads past 10,000.
