Thanks for the replies, everyone. I really appreciate the feedback and questions.

Glowrock - I forgot when are you coming here? I leave for Germany on July 1st and come back 3 weeks later.

MARK - You better believe it!

LAsam- I dunno.. where is the love for Juneau? I'm wondering that myself.

CanadianCentaur - 8 hours is pretty much the realistic time if you're going the speed limit (65 mph, at times 55). It usually takes me about 6 hours considering the Parks Highway has many long straight aways where I've gone up to 110 mph (before the minivan kicks me down). And indeed, the highway goes through Denali National Park where Mt. McKinley can be seen on a clear day (not so this time for me, though). As for my brother, he is contemplating driving to SC. I'm betting he will.

KevinfromTejas - Thanks, I really appreciate that. And yes, this would be my first in-depth tour of Fairbanks compared to my previous visits. This is also the first time from what I know of that I did a thread including neighborhood shots. I'll have to do one for Anchorage soon.

Again, thanks for the response, everyone

I didn't make it to Fairbanks when I was in Alaska. Very interesting pics.

Looks like we might just miss each other, though I might be able to come out on June 29th or 30th, so maybe we could meet up almost as soon as I come in at the airport!

Drop me a PM...

I was with my dad, brothers, and friends up in Alaska about 10 years ago on a fishing trip on the Keni river and halibut fishing out of Homer. We also did Denali and Anchorage. Most of us really wanted to make it to Fairbanks for it would have the most northern city for us on our trip. But some in the group had already been there and we bypassed it and skipped it. Next time I go, and I will go again, is to make it to Fairbanks hell or highwater.

Fairbanks rox!! Kind of like Santa Monica but a bit more gritty. Really is a dense walkable city with lots of street level retail. I'm a bit fed up with the yuppie espresso set infiltrating though, god they are so annoying cruising around in their Bentleys thinking they are better then the locals.

MTHQ: Hope you are doing better now brother, cheer up Bush only has another year and change in office, google ***mysteries of 9/11*** should definitely boost your spirits, shows how the twin towers were brought down with explosives not by the 767's you will love it bro.... peace from SD, we love you down here!

^hopefully it's highwater, bnk

mello - thanks! I'm honored to have a fan club down in San Diego

Anyways since there's a good amount of interest in Fairbanks, I figured I'd post some extras I took during my weekend:

Thumbs up Fairbanks Thanks

I appreciate you posting those photos, sure makes me do some wishful thinking and remembering. I was in Fairbanks last July , the weather looked exactly like the weather in your photos...rain. I was in Fairbanks 3 days, and loved every minute of it, toured the downtown area, UAF , and of course saw the Pipeline and panned for gold.

There is a webcam I look at every day, its in the Daily News Miner building and the website has a great following ( I am a member needless to say) of people : www.arcticcam.com
While I was there, I stood in the parking lot where the webcam overlooks , called home and my family connected via internet and saw me waving at them back home in VA, and saved the photos!

I really like Fairbanks, it captured my heart.

My way of traveling was booking a tour with Alaskan Railroad, I saw so much of Alaska, with out having to do driving, however, on the down side, I didnt get to many of the small towns such as Tok, Delta Junction and driving the ALCAN. And didn't visit Homer.

However I did see Seward, Whittier, Denali, Talkeenta, Anchorage, Fairbanks, and did many tours in each place.

Once you visit Alaska, you will always want to go back.
