Poor East St. Louis/metro east. Tons of union industrial workers, gets shit on by Chicago
and the rural illinois folks (in Chicago area terms it's like a smaller (but not much smaller) version of NW Indiana). Visitors often complain that there is nothing directly across the river...well that was all massive rail yards and roundhouses and fueling areas thats turned back to nature....in East St.Louis proper. There's literally 10 ft deep worth of locomotive ash.
At least Senator Dick Durbin is from East Saint Louis, but he's meddling in east st. louis club closing times "while rome burns." Its well intentioned, but misdirected. East Saint Louis used to be like a little slice of New Orleans with 24 hour jazz/blues clubs, etc, that people from all over the St. Louis area went over to enjoy in the 40s-60s. Still are "do what you want" strip clubs open all night but it means little in the big picture.
