I'm inclined to agree with austlar1 on this one, but they are keeping their DT location which is great to hear.

I say home grown companies with HQ Downtown should stay in Downtown. It's the heart of the city. I would feel pretty upset if a home grown company decided to move completely out of DT. Don't have an issue with added offices at the Domain as long as they keep their presence at their iconic West End building.

This article is about 1108 Nueces (at Nueces and 12th):

Quote:
An office building dating back the the 1950s will be demolished to make way for a more modern vibe that aims to appeal to professional services firms, nonprofits and trade organizations.

As mentioned in several of the articles, Homeaway already occupies a full building in the Domain - the 5-story, 124,000 square foot Domain 1, which I'm sure they will vacate. This is technically an expansion, albeit a big one.

Homeaway was one of the first large companies in Austin to embrace the multiple-location platform to benefit employees. They have offices at Penn Field on South Congress, Research Park Plaza on Hwy 183, Downtown at West Elm and of course their biggest location at Domain 1. They let their employees choose which office to work at in order to accommodate their commute. More big companies need to embrace that idea, especially in cities like Austin where traffic is such an issue.

Homeaway was a home-grown company, but now its just a subsidiary of Expedia. I don't blame founders for selling out for millions (or billions in Whole Foods' case) but the corporate culture always changes when a company becomes part of a conglomerate. Hopefully they will continue to keep their downtown location but over time big corporations creep toward consolidation as a matter of cost.

No. That has remained the site of one of the biggest unfulfilled dream projects in Austin. That's surprising since Endeavor owns it.

I get the feeling something massive will eventually go up there. The parcel owner is probably waiting for the right deal?
Would be nice for a supertall with a public observation deck!
(assuming it's not in a CVC)

W.5th and Guadalupe St right in front of Republic Square Park. It's an old 2 story white building with a single story parking garage adjacent to it, you can't miss it.

That thing is the bane of my existence. I drive past it every day on my way to work. It's like this weird negative space eyesore. It belongs in some other city completely.

I know it isn't the post office site proper, but 600 Guadalupe may be getting redeveloped soon. The link below takes you too a drone shoot done for a commercial client. The highest images come in at 773 feet.

That's the Extended Stay hotel. Sutton had it but now Lincoln Property Company controls that site. I don't know if they bought it or partnered on it, but they are planning an office building there. Those are some very specific heights - 419 feet and 773 feet. Developers usually get these panorama shots done to market the views to potential investors and/or tenants of their future buildings. Whether or not that is what this is, I have no idea.

That's very interesting. That would go along with what scraperwill said about 600 Guadalupe which is the motel site that had a CVC filing late last year.

This is from the CVC determination. Half of the block is good to go up!

Two months after the 600 Guadalupe CVC determination request, a "development related" tree survey was done of the block. This is from the end of December and Sutton's name was still on the documents.
