The one flaw in your sarcasm is that the ~9-years in the making Hotel Van Zandt is now topped out.

The funny thing about that project is that they dropped the condos on top as a result of the housing/financial crisis. But condos are back in demand now, so their original plans would be viable today.

A great photo of the skyline Thursday night as a cold front blew through Austin. They were also testing the spotlights in Zilker Park for ACL Fest this weekend.

That cold front was neat to watch. I was outside barbecuing last night when it came through. It was odd because the clouds weren't very wide or thick. I could still see the moon through the clouds even while it was lightning. It was basically in and out of here in like 20 minutes. Right after it passed it cleared up again, and I could see the moon perfectly even while there was still intense lightning off to the east. Also as it was rolling through, I did see them testing the spotlights in Zilker Park for ACL Fest. it was an odd sight last night. Today since the air was so crisp, you could really hear the music in Zilker Park even though it's 4 miles away.

Anyone have any opinions on the Seaholm condos? Advantages, disadvantages? Are the finishes going to be any good? I have a family member looking to buy one.

All of the units were reserved 48 hours after they became available. I believe at least 80% of them are under contract now, and there is a long waiting list for any units they may become available.

The point of the individual building threads is to catch and post every snippet of info, updates and rumors about them. Not to mention so people can ask questions about leasing, amenities and materials. And of course so each building can be critiqued.

And there hasn't really been any bickering in the Austin sub-forum.

As long as you stay out of the Transportation and Mueller threads there hasn't.

I would like to see us post more on the main forum too, I know it's tidy to do the subforums, but it's nice to see everyone's photos and posts without looking for the subs
I'm just saying homies

Great. Downtown desperately needs more office space.

I found this on the Austin Energy Control Center redevelopment.]

Rhode Partners is designing this - http://rhodepartners.com/

If you go to their website, under "news" they have this listed on their website back in May:

Quote:
Preliminary design has begun on Block 24, located at 3rd Street & West streets in downtown Austin, Tx. The program includes a 50-60 story tower with below grade parking, retail, office and 400 to 500 residential apartments. RHODE PARTNERS will lead a team of designers with extensive experience in innovative high rise design. The project is required to achieve LEED Gold certification, providing an opportunity to raise the standard for high rise residential towers. The $140M project is anticipated to begin construction in 3Q 2015.

$140 million seems a bit on the cheap side for a 50-60 story building.

^Yeah, that does seem kind of slim for such a major project.

Austin’s Hotel ZaZa set to break ground

By Shonda Novak
American-Statesman Staff

Construction is set to begin on a 24-story tower that will include a high-end Hotel ZaZa and about 200 luxury apartments across from Republic Square Park in downtown Austin.

Z-Resorts and Gables Residential, which are partnering in the project, announced the groundbreaking exclusively to the American-Statesman. The apartments and 160-room boutique hotel are scheduled to open in late 2016.

LIGHTING STUFF:

I saw the edge of the Bowie... It looked to be pretty interesting for sure.... I just hope it's not finished and that it will go all the way around the building and have the logo on the north facing side like the elevation.

On a separate note.... Frost was dark for several days... Does anyone know anything about that? I suspect they were cleaning or changing the lights to LEDs or something... it's too bad they can't seem to hide the spot light in the middle of the crown. Does anyone else notice that? It looks good from the ground but from far away, it doesn't look the way I think they intended.

Also, I noticed spring had a taller light atop an antenna for a few days, on a flag pole or something... last night they put it closer to the base again.

Lighting is very interesting here... everyone loves to light their buildings up in Austin... I think it's neat.

Dark Frost was recently discusses in the Austin sub-forum in the Frost building thread. It has to do with crickets. Too many of the damn things this year.
