I still remember that morning in 2021 when my jaw dropped upon seeing the proposed height of 1,646 ft. The fact that 1,646 ft corresponds to just over 500 m (501.7 m to be exact) suggests that the developer is keen on breaking records. It's often said that most developers don't care about height, but this one clearly does. Thus I am cautiously optimistic that the finished product will not only include a new highest floor in the Americas (as we discussed recently) but also a new highest roof.

Who knows what will happen, but it appears that this tower will exceed the roof of Extell's Central Park Tower.

We are guaranteed at least 1,500 ft either way. Can’t be mad at that. But higher would be welcome, not just for the height, but because the best designed towers should be the ones to stand out on the skyline. I’m still not over the 200 ft haircut at 53W53, even if it still wouldn’t be the tallest today.

Not to mention with how high class A demand is in NYC, I think getting as much extra space as possible via height will pay dividends

I wonder if this tower has grown or if these stories are inacurate.

^ Google AI Mode is telling me that "April 2026 legal filings indicate that RXR Realty and TF Cornerstone have updated plans for 175 Park Avenue, aiming for a 95-story tower reaching 1,646 feet in height.", but all the referenced articles (including the one you linked to) are behind paywalls so I can't verify independently.

Hopefully, NY Guy can clarify this. Ever since the DOB revised its website, I find it only slightly easier to decipher than Gematria.

We are looking at June construction.

Quote:
Last month, RXR met with JPMorgan executives at One Vanderbilt in hopes of securing funding, walking investors through its financing strategy and leasing plans, according to Hoodline. Both firms declined to comment on the meeting.

An RXR spokesperson said construction is expected to begin in June.
They must have confidence to expand an extra 12 floors. Pretty much almost 3 million sq-ft.

This is akin to another 1 WTC in terms of square footage. Massive!

Just curious but has anyone gone by the hotel recently? Does it seem empty and are there indications of impending demolition?

Fried Frank Guiding Upsized New York Park Avenue Tower
By Andrew McIntyre · 2026-04-08

RXR Realty and TF Cornerstone have filed new plans for their supertall tower at 175 Park Ave. with the companies now seeking to build 12 floors higher, and Fried Frank is assisting the venture on land-use matters.

The companies earlier this month filed new plans for a 95-story office and hotel tower beside Grand Central and with the extra floors the venture now expects the building to be 1,646 feet....

Previous plans had called for an 83-floor building rising to 1,580 feet....

Representatives at RXR Realty LLC and TF Cornerstone couldn't be immediately reached for comment Wednesday.

New plans call for about 1.9 million square feet of office space and roughly 300,000 square feet of hotel space. The project would replace the Grand Hyatt Hotel and include new Hyatt rooms....

Fried Frank Harris Shriver & Jacobson LLP is also assisting with a project at nearby 350 Park Ave., which is the third-tallest project in New York.

Skidmore Owings & Merrill LLP is the design architect of record for 175 Park. The project is expected to be completed by 2030.

Counsel for RXR and TF Cornerstone couldn't be immediately reached for comment Wednesday.

The RXR-TF Cornerstone venture is represented by Tal Golomb and David Karnovsky of Fried Frank Harris Shriver & Jacobson LLP.

Yes, the DOB website is ridiculous, but the initial filings have confirmed all 95 floors. We will have to wait until filings advance to get any definitive final height numbers. Unless RXR gives specific numbers befor then, which will still be verified by DOB filings.

Thanks. A few years ago, the DOB website added a link to a new database which is very nebulous.

1,646 would be absolutely remarkable.

The roof of Merdeka 118 in Kuala Lumpur is 1,700 feet tall, and that's the second tallest building in the entire world.

The highest floor at the Burj Khalifa is 1,919 feet.

175 Park Avenue could be one of the most recognizable buildings on the planet.

We are reaching utterly crazy heights here for a first world city.
