Holy crap! that bus stop itself is worth a visit . For real, it looks like making regular bus stops boring and retarded.
Let us hope no bored douchebag would vandalize it for their fun...

Gare du Nord.

Last week we had a strike on the RER B (RATP side).
It means the interconnection between the RATP and SNCF is suspended.
The northern part (SNCF: Gare du Nord - CDG airport/Mitry Claye) depart from the surface suburban platform. We can see a Z50000 next to a MI79



Gare du Nord, last stop. To go further in the south, passengers should take the RATP RER B on the underground platforms (the usual platforms of the RER B when service is normal).

Beginners Question:

What/why is the need so great to justify the expense of these elaborate platform gates? I can't say I'm a fan in the least. To me they look grossly overbuilt and bulky and do an excellent job at obscuring the grace of many of these Metro stations - not to mention preventing one from viewing the opposite side of the station. As a transport fanatic I love the Paris system with exuberance, but I fear these doors are taking away from the system's charm - not to mention they are not at all trainwatcher friendly. I honestly hope they stay in Paris and don't spread to other systems. One side effect of having cash strapped systems in the US, is that they barely have enough funds to keep a station in a modest state of repair, let alone enough to built platform gates systemwide.

Again to reiterate, why is this so important to RATP?

It is safer, people cannot fall on the track.
It allows a higher speed in station during rush hours, when the platform is crowded, trains cannot run fast approching the station.
Trains running faster approaching the station means a lower time staying in station.
A lower time in station means that higher frequencies are possible.
Higher frequencies mean more capacity.

In a metro network like Paris every second counts in rush hours.
By increasing the frequency from 105s to 90s, we add 15% more capacity on the line.

I've seen a few systems with what looked like 1 and 1/2 or 1 and 1/4 meter high gates (about stomach/chest high) which still prevents people from falling but are not as much a visual obstruction to people looking across the station or seeing the trains.

^I think that would be a good compromise and is the height I was thinking would have a much reduced affect on closing in the station platform...

What are those systems with shorter gates?

The Metro's gates aren't really that bad. They seem very transparent in person. The newer stations built around them (Line 14) are pretty awesome.

I see strong value in platform doors, especially for systems with outdoor stations in cold climates.

To show how every second counts, RATP has set up timers on the platform of Saint Lazare.
It clearly indicates to passengers that trains shouldn't stay more than 38 seconds in station in rush hours.

^Why no platform gates at this new station then? One would think a total new build would include a new standard instead being added later at great expense.

New tram line planned.
Porte de Choisy - Orly (town center, not the airport).



This tram line will replace the bus line 183, the busiest line in Paris with 57,000 daily passengers.

Porte de Choisy - Orly tram
-10 km
-20 stations
-Between 70,000 and 80,000 passengers per day
-Opening in 2020

Not render yet but this is the bus line 183.

At Porte de Choiy, connection with the T3 and metro line 7.

Because there could still be some old MP59 trains running on line 4 at the opening of the station.
No platform doors are planned on line 4, for the moment.

Those entrances are new to provide a better interchange with the and currently under in construction
T3 platforms at Porte de Vincennes, T3est is on the other side of the Avenue.
