While I was riding to this spot I couldn't help but think how there should be a line of highrises along Riverside between downtown and 71. The only real thing stopping it from happening would be the FAA since additional runways at ABIA would almost certainly put their flight path over that area.

I can definitely see Ben White filling up with mixed-use developments later on once light rail established.

Any news on the light rail? I've been seeing a lot of the commercials lately.

Comments about that get posted in the Transportation thread in the Austin sub-forum.

It is to my understanding that a compilation thread is for everything.

That would be a correct. A gold star for you! He was asking for updates about light rail, and the transportation thread is where Austin forummers post such things.

Sorry for getting a bit "jumpy". Though I do prefer a cookie.

Nice shots, Texdaniel. The Colorado Tower is filling in nicely. That view will be gone when they build the ZaZa tho. Anyone know what's happening with that?

As far as I know this summer has always been the planned time frame for the start of construction. But summer is well under way, and so far the site shows no signs of any imminent construction.

Hotel Zaza's site plan was released about three weeks ago, but I don't see any building permit activity, other than old demolition permits.

I think it's the best angle since you get the density of downtown and UT.

And the backdrop of the hills. I could also see the state owned midrises at 51st Street and the Arboretum midrises behind those, plus Mueller, the 290 flyover and the midrises along 183. It's a really nice view. I suggest everyone go see it.

They should put a 700-foot spire on it and call it the tallest building in Austin.

[eidt] excuse the bitter comment. Like others, I was hoping for something a bit more substantial right there in the heart of down-town.

How would you position a more substantial (height-wise) project on that corner without impacting the south wall of the adjacent Bank of America Tower?

Such a history this corner has. I've always consdiered this a placeholder until a larger development happens. A slipcover.

Don't get folks on here started about the man who was behind the failed development of this property (he who shall not be named: Tom Stacy ).

Back in 2006 this was the proposal, designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli.
At that time it included a revamp of the the building next door ( same owner) and a set back tower that would not block the tower to the north.

Wow, that's a sharp looking building! I know it is kind of early, but what types of firms will be looking in to this building? Tech?

Rumor is a very prominent tech company is close to signing a lease for about 250,000 square feet - approximately half of the building's office space. The building is supposed to start construction this quarter and deliver by the end of 2016.
