Austin now has three proposals in the the 600' to 700' range.

The Fairmont convention center hotel, which has been delayed for over a year and a half, has had some good indications this week that it will be starting as soon as next month. It will be Austin's new tallest at 691' (with spire). The current tallest Austonian is 683'.

Waller Park Place Tower B, which has financing, still looks to be on track for a November start. It's in the 50-55 story range, but the final height has not been announced.

The new ECC tower announced today should be in the 650' range considering that several floors will be office space.

Or taller...

If Constructive Ventures remains true to their vision (i.e., 120k SF office + 15k SF retail + 400 residential units + parking), I believe this building will be taller than 50 stories and more than likely eclipse The Austonian in height (even the Fairmont...if it is built to 691'). However, they do have a 74,000 SF piece of land with which to work (much larger than most tower developments). The floor plates could be huge. I'm hoping they are not and the building be developed into a taller, skinnier tower - using the rest of the land for public spaces.

At this juncture, it is not known to the public how tall the tower will actually be (if built). Nor may it become publicized for many months. If they remain on schedule, the tower will not break ground for another 15 or so months.

The project is still in the design phase.

Remember: financing is everything and as it was mentioned in the article...finding capital for condo developments is rough right now.

I really wish Austin would provide incentives for developers to use land for public squares/pocket parks in exchange for going taller/thinner foot print.

I was trying to picture how all of the new buildings will look from this angle. Green Water and ECC will be godsends, of course, but unfortunately, there will still be big gaps in the skyline. Most notably, between the Ashton and the W and between the W and 360. Block 1 and Block 23 will help a little bit in closing that last gap, but this is just further evidence that we need the site of the future Travis County courthouse to be a big building that has a presence on the skyline. Damn you, city of Austin! You're just screwing it up for everybody. Maybe they will actually build something there tall enough to make a slight difference?

I would like to see something really tall happen on the courthouse block on the south side of the block. The courthouse tower then could be on the north side of it. I'd also like to see that state garage east of 360 redeveloped with a tower on the northeast corner of it. That would do wonders for filling the gaps over there.

Hey guys, I just recently moved to Austin, so I thought I would post some pictures that I took while Downtown today. I was amazed at all the development that's going on. I'm not too familiar with all the projects, so I hope I didn't mess up any names.

Colorado Tower

JW Marriott

IBC Bank Plaza

7Rio

The Bowie

Seaholm

Welcome to Austin! Nice photos. I like that view of The Bowie framed by the trees.

Thanks for the welcome. It's a little sad to leave now that Cleveland is starting to make a little comeback, but I'm looking forward to my time in Austin!

Wow, Tom. That's good enough to be Austin's Wikipedia picture.

Per AusTxDevelopment's post on the GreenWater thread, Block 23 will be breaking ground soon. Yay, office!

VERY NICE. I counted 30 floors total. Hoping for successful leases for current commercial projects will lead to larger commercial towers in the near future.

This view from the SE has always been my favorite; even with so much the horrendous Hilton in pic!
