The Mayan Restaurant went out of business on Halloween. It's hard to believe something like that was so popular and then flamed out so quickly.

Seriously the worst food ever at that place. I've never eaten anything so bland in my life.

Be interesting to see what comes to replace it. Hopefully not a Rainforest Cafe.

It was said on the news that the space will become more theaters.

I almost ate there like 3 times, but the line was always way too long and the group I was with each time always opted to do something else. It sounds like that was a godsend because I've now heard much more bad things about the Mayan than good things.

Only 24% of the people who rated it on urbanspoon said that they liked it.

They've cycled through menus/chefs several times. Somehow they didn't seem to be able to find one that worked. I remember going there a number of times when it was new and jam-packed, and I was much younger. It was an experience back then. Over the years it became less popular and less interesting. Last time I was there was almost exactly one year ago, and it was practically dead. The food was decent but forgettable.

I worked there back in 2004 for 3-4 months and as a server some areas were a nightmare. people usually wanted a view of the divers and if they didn't tips would suck(even more than usual Utah tippers). The overall design of it wasn't done very well and something that can hold 300+ is a massive undertaking to try to keep profitable. When I was there we were told by management that it was the first year they were able to make a profit and it had been open for 3-4 years.

I probably went there two or three times during its first year and haven't been since. I'm not picky about food quality... food is food. I was young and for me and I saw it as a very exciting place. If it were up to me I would have eaten there very often. My parents, however, didn't like the food nor the long drive to Sandy.

I think these Casa Bonita ripoff places were always only intended for children anyway.

I love it! That is good architecture! The materials are good. The detailing and articulation are good. It's clean and simple, but with a high level of sophistication. And, it's not fake historicism!! Thank you Daybreak for allowing exemplary architecture to be built there!

Btw, does anybody know which architecture firm designed it?

It was designed by Dixon and Associates. I like the look of it a lot, though it appears that some metal panels were removed from what was shown in the original rendering:

What is that six lane highway? Is that supposed to be State Street? I-15?

I think it could be 4500 south.

It's probably 5300 south. While growing in Bennion, my mom would drive us by there often to go to Murray Park and swimming pool.

It is 4500 South. I go through the area often and it is 3 lanes each direction between Main and I-15.

The caption under the rendering in the article says "The bridge over 4500 South was built in the summer." View article.

I am sorry but is this the only rendering they have to show a transit oriented and walkable development? A beautiful but ridiculously inappropriate image of a huge six lane roadway. Am I missing something or are they?
