Jeez, are we ever going to significantly surpase the 400ft mark? Looks like the flat top/plateau profile of our skyline isn't going anywhere..

Let them cry!

I say the more quality hotel space downtown the better. I know of at least two companies that have said that lack of downtown, convention centered, quality hotel space has prevented them from considering Sacramento as a location for their annual corporate conventions. I mean come on! Why let Salt Lake, Denver, or Vegas get all the convention business???

Then again, they also sited the California taxes as another reason for not holding their conventions here in the golden state...

It will happen I am sure whatever CIM builds at 301CM will be over 500ft, if the Capitol Grand ever gets going, and pending on what Aura ends up doing there might be chance for Epic. I know its a long shot but it least there is possibilities out there.

You know, just curious, if Deutsche Bank had required, say, only 40 or 45% of condos to be sold for the towers project which Saca obviously met, would he have been able to go forth with construction of the towers regardless of what Calpers did or didn't do?. If so, was it more difficult convincing CALpers to up its investment or DB to be a little bit more flexible in the minimum sales requirement?

Well I'm not sure that the parking garage is adding the height since it looks like it's mostly below the levee and the tower is on the levee level.

The base is counted as 1 floor but its the height of 2 and the top is like 2 1/4 but it's only hiding equipment, so that still only makes - the height like that of a 17 story building. It doesn't matter.

According to this website, the parking structure is not part of the main building, only connected. The building is 13 stories high.

CalSTRS New Headquarters
Proposed plans for the CalSTRS headquarters include:

* A 13-story office tower on two levels of public space will encompass 400,000 gross square feet. It is designed to qualify for a LEED® Gold Certificate by using the latest breakthroughs in building science and technology for sustainable, "green" construction.
* A five-level, covered parking structure providing approximately 1,000 spaces and an additional 132 street-level parking spaces.

^ Correct.

I have been comuncating with structural steel Project
Manager for the CalSTRS towers and it's final height is
277'-4" to the top of the parapet. There are 5 so
called "Podium" levels and on top of that the "Tower"
levels 3 - 17. So technically CalSTRS is 19 floors.

To put it simply, Yep!

Here's a pic I took from my palatial offices on the 7th floor of the Emeral Tower this past Friday...

Compared with the sheer size of the Towers, its just hard to geek yourself up for a couple of highrises in the 300ft-400ft range. No matter how stunning the architecture might be for the final design, it will fall short of being iconic imo if it didn't at least surpase the Wells Fargo buiding by 50ft-100ft. Since all indications are that they will be using the same footprint I find it hard to believe that a new design for some twins will be any higher than than what we have now. Its too bad the piles have already been driven to accomodate 2 buildings. I think the chances of getting a much bigger building than what will eventually be proposed would have been a lot better if they werent already in the ground.

I think there's much truth to this. But that just points out another part of Saca's legacy. Even with the failure of the Towers, he has set the bar much higher and Sacramentans now demand much more than ever before. For a city to be great, its citizens must demand greatness. Sacramentans now do that. Before, a project like Waterview would have been just fine. Now, it doesn’t measure up. That is what I call progress.

^ Good point. I think the failure of the Towers makes Sacramentans and the city more determined than ever to complete a project of that magnitude. The Towers' failure is still a success for the city (in the future).
