New York City, your new skyline overlords continue to rise...

Is that a double height floor in the works?

I do hope that, once people experience the street level feeling of this tower, more and more New Yorkers will embrace development/redevelopment of the city, replacing the old, run down, dreary and depressing stock with bright, airy buildings like 1 Vanderbilt.

I noticed the upper columns yesterday looking down 42nd Street. This tower already has presence, and for those of us who actually know what's going up there, it's just as if the rest of the tower is invisible.

1 Vanderbilt to 30 Hudson...

This one is older, but love the "Gothamness" of it...

From the cam, just now -- note the funky joints at the top of the column they're setting. They've reached that next layer of truss work I posted about a couple months ago. I think hints of that are at the northwest corner, too.

The more steel goes up, the more I like it. And I already liked it.

Now that we're past the base, this will start to take off quickly (already signs of it). This tower is such a value-add for the GCT area; look forward to seeing what else the re-zoning will yield. As much as I like to see the far West-side develop, Midtown East will always be, in my mind, Manhattan's premiere CBD.

The weather outside is frightful,
But the skyline will be so delightful
when this supertall starts to show,
so let it snow, let it snow, let it snow...

This lower part reminds me a lot of the BOA Tower at the same point of construction.

I think that every time I see it. Brings home the point that this too, will wrap up and become a fixture on the skyline.
