Oh yeah I guess I'm thinking of the Helijet trailer park. Darn.

I was wondering what all the fuss was about.

Looks like they want to add a third dock to the new center as part of the deal:

Would Harbour be paying for the new dock?

Yes according to Vancouver Sun

I guess by building their own dock, Harbour Air got a reduction of $3 from the $12.50-per-flight fee that was initially announced by VHFC.

Picture of the new terminal I took on Oct. 7. I have never seen so many planes parked at the location before.

So onto the next stage in the moving of float plane terminal and completion of seawall according to application posted on City's website:

From City of Vancouver - 1075 W Waterfront Road (Float Plane) - DE415874 Development Application:
"Oct 31 - Nov 15: All land-based buildings, including fuel tanks, will be removed from City property;
Nov 15 - Early Spring: PavCo to complete the seawall construction and park improvements in the area, an obligation secured as part of the Convention Centre project;"

Activity at the new terminal!

Still some planes at the old docks.

New ramp they have installed to the old docks. The new ramp is on completed seawall. This opens up the uncompleted bit of seawall for completion.

Start of dismantling of the former seaplane terminal, aka Trailer Village.

The Trailer Village. All this is supposed to be gone by Nov 15th so completion of this gap in the seawall can be constructed.

More of the trailers.

Thanks for the photos and update. This is a very welcome change and has been a long time coming.

On another front, here is a render of the Cactus Club, soon to finally open after taking forever too. It is from Vancitybuzz.com (uncredited, of course):

How many days a year is the convention center booked?

Don't necessarily mean fully booked, but with at least medium sized events.

Last I heard was 230 days (I think), from David Podmore on the radio.

Where would they put an expansion? Perhaps to the East of Canada Place along with an integrated Seabus/WCE/Helijet terminal? Now those are some exciting thoughts!

Maybe they can eventually use the northern portion of Canada Place that is currently Port offices too.

The Convention center is 1.1 million square feet, I doubt very much that the whole thing is being used by any single convention booking at one time.

The convention centre's combined buildings are 1.1-million square feet, but what matters is that it has about 460,000 square feet of useable functional space so it's not nearly as big as you think.

There are often multiple conventions and events going on at the same time.

That would definitely be an obvious expansion... and if that Flyover Canada attraction fails at the old IMAX theatre, that mini-theatre space would be appropriate for the convention centre too. The convention centre really needs a major 1,800-2,000 seat theatre as part of its complex, it's the one type of functional space its exhibitors frequently ask for.

What's the other 700,000 square feet for?
