EDIT: This would be next to the proposed 32-story 6th & Nueces hotel.
Here's the consolidated administrative site plan. No building elevations, just some info about it, but on page 12 it does note that the proposed building is a 3-story building, but it also mentions that the max building height is 535 feet. Back before 360 was built, Novare had been planning a 35-story tower on this block along with a 40-story 550 foot tower on the post office site.

For us to have a significant "2nd skyline" - I really think the area around the Triangle is the best place because of its visibility from all around.
That's cool, Belton is a cool town. But yeah anything now tall won't stick out as much at The Domain as it would at The Triangle.

Looks like someone from Reddit visited Austin and took some high quality pics. I'm just gonna leave this link here, posted by the redditor dysphonix.

What are your feeling on the iconic East Austin business directly South of Plaza Saltillo? It has been owned by four generations of the same family for over 100 years but will likely be priced out of the neighborhood by development. I'm talking about the scrapyard that takes up two full blocks of prime real estate.

http://www.austinmetalandiron.net/
Every developer in town (and out of town) has approached the Shapiros about buying that site. They own the land and the buildings, so there is no landlord to raise the rent or kick them out. They say business is too profitable to sell right now, and it's conveniently located for their customers so they don't want to move it. It is one of (if not the) only large scrap metal location within the city limits. Land prices may fluctuate in the short term, but over time land prices only go up - especially that close to downtown - so they have no problem waiting. The family is independently wealthy and doesn't need the money. However, the generation that runs it is in their late 50s & 60s. If they decide to retire or one of them has a major illness, their kids, when they inherit/take it over, may have a different view.

I remember when that whole hillside above the freeway was more or less a campground for crackheads. The police used to sweep through there and beat the bushes to get the drug addicts out of there. This is a definite improvement over the old downtown,

Did anyone else see a crew drilling for core samples at I-35 and Riverside yesterday? They were on the northwest corner of the intersection.

It's most likely for the I35/ Riverside overpass improvements that were posted on here a few months back.

re: above rendering.

Note the small house on the corner of the lot is still there in the rendering!

I love it! The elderly woman who lived there refused to sell years ago when that whole area was to be a Mall! LOL!

Oh the power of one determined old lady! Gotta love it!

They plan on using that house as the construction HQ during the construction. But I was surprised to see still standing in the rendering.

Looks like Aspen Heights may have a residential project planned for 611 W 6th.

The CVCs are starting to have a noticeable effect on the Austin skyline. It will be interesting to watch it progress over time.

I agree - especially the Lamar bridge CVC for this part of town. It'll be great once everything fills in to see the various angles on buildings that wouldn't otherwise be there.

The aerial shot of the lot and surrounding area reveals that around 60 to 70 percent of the land is currently being utilized by cars. This is a sickness in sunbelt cities. I love my car, I love driving, I even love to sleep in my car when I'm traveling, so I'm not saying I don't personally LOVE cars. I'm just saying that the love of cars is a sickness that afflicts our cities and society. But I'm warning you --- you can have my car when you pry me out of its cold, dead hands.

From the looks of those Aspen Heights renderings it seems like each unit will be preconstructed and stacked in place onsite.

I think you may be right. Done properly, a building constructed like that can turn out pretty nice.

Picture "A" looks like they took the design from an old tube tv made of legos.
