I don't miss the Trolley Stop Cafe and that hotel is beautiful. Build it now!

St Charles should be lined with midrises like that from Washington Ave all the way to Harmony Circle.

Seriously gorgeous architecture! This and the building under construction further uptown by Farouki Farouki are just stunning!

That’s disappointing, seems like a more than adequate office complex. I don’t understand why it’s had such a hard time attracting tenants.

there was a pandemic and a lot of companies switched to work from home. more residential use in that section of town would be nice anyway, it’s needs some life outside of 9-5 and game days.

This. Need more residential foot traffic, as that spurs adjacent development. Where there's people (especially with disposable income), there's businesses.

Exactly, as someone who lived at 930 Poydras just last year there is a nice trend of developments. 549 O'Keefe (parking lot across from 930 Poydras) is also on the market for sale. Maybe this could help be a catalyst for the underutilized buildings/sites in the surrounding area.

Demolish and remove existing 1st story gallery in front of 723, 719, 717, and 711 Canal St
Here’s the story behind this: the Astor’s owners are sick of the squatters/illegal businesses operating under their hotel gallery/canopy, so they are asking the city if they can remove the canopy. The HDLC recommends denying because the canopy is nice for pedestrians and is similar to a historic canopy that the building used to have. This is tough because having canopies is great for Canal Street but if the city isn’t not going to enforce quality of life issues, businesses are going to take drastic actions. Obviously the best solution would be to fix homelessness and stop illegal businesses, but that’s easier said than done. Maybe better enforcement and putting benches where the businesses set up and playing classical music would deter people more than removing the canopy.

That's great to hear. It was only a matter of time before that parking lot was going to be gone. Especially since South Market is right there. I wonder if they'll make a play on it.

Maybe that could allow for that sixth and final development South Market has been working towards.

A dream scenario would be they acquire that parking lot AND the Plaza Tower, so that South Market stretches from Poydras to Howard.

A boy can dream!!! Does this O'Keefe lot include the part fronting Poydras St? If so, that is a prime piece of property. I wonder what would work best on this lot.

It's only a portion of the entire lot that is for sale. However, I believe there are plans from when the current (maybe previous) owners when they planned to build a residential development on the site.

That lot always looked so out of place there; glad to see it being done away with even if it’s only a portion of it. Question is who will purchase it (South Market? Tulane? an outside company? ) How’s construction on Five O’ Fore and the old Archdioceses building coming along?

I just saw something on the news at the Five O' Fore site with its leaders. It'll be built by Q3 2024.
