I think there's a lot of potential along Anderson past those intersections as well (though I'm a bit biased, living in Wooten).

1. The whole corridor, from Mopac to 183/Lamar is identified as an "activity corridor" on the imagine Austin map (for what it's worth).
ftp://ftp.ci.austin.tx.us/GIS-Data/p...4x36-2_Map.jpg

2. Anderson/Mopac is a potential station location for the LStar rail (if that ever happens).

3. The intersection of Anderson and the capMetro red line could potentially support a station.

4. The area along Anderson east of Burnet is probably already even more walkable than the section you called out. The commercial lots there are for the most part narrower and shorter, which is more conducive to a variety of businesses.

5. The whole stretch already has pretty good transit service (for Austin), with both the 5 and the 323.

6. Burnet/Anderson is supposedly the center of population of the metro.

7. It's well positioned between Downdown and the Domain, or Mueller/Highland and the Domain.

8. It has connectivity with both Mopac and 183/35.

I have yet to see the Skyhouse's night lighting. Wish someone would get a close photo of it.

I saw the red white and blue on Skyhouse. I'm glad the lighting can change color. I mentioned on in another post about how uniform in design all the new projects have as if the city is closely dictating how everything should look. I've noticed that most of the time, the buildings at night are mostly blue unless a holiday is coming up.

I really want to see more dramatic lighting downtown with future projects plus more variation in lighting. I really liked when Monarch had its lighting cycling different colors and was disappointed when they stopped. The Austonian can also change colors but rarely does nowadays. Enough with the blue too.

I love how Dallas is lit up at night. With their tallest completely lined with lighting that can do all sorts of designs. Look for a picture of the skyline at night this past Valentines Day. Was awesome. I wish Austin's buildings would be more bold in lighting effects.

Me too. They could at least change colors every holiday, or Friday, or hourly...

AustinTowers.net reporting that Homewood Suites filed plans with the city for a 14-story highrise at 78 & 80 East Avenue.

I see these were submitted in December and January. Has this project been mentioned on this site? I did a search for Homewood and nothing came up.

Their hotels are always so boring. I hope they decide to liven it up a bit.

Was there any prior news on that project? That one seems to have come completely out of the blue for me.

I saw a Big Red Dog sign in an empty lot on the northbound frontage road of I-35 between Slaughter and William Cannon. I asked them about it on Twitter, and they said:

"what we can divulge is an exciting, new, & low-impact apartment project will be starting there soon. Thanks for the note!"

Nowhere near as bad as I was expecting. It's a hell of a lot better than the images that are on google.

Yeah, that Canadian one isn't quite as bland as the ones I see on Google image search. I'm hoping they cut their teeth on that one, and now want to push the envelope a little farther.

I'm hoping they tweak it a lot more. That's a very prominent location. When you're driving south on I-35 it's gong to be almost dead center in the middle of the view on I-35.

It doesn't necessarily need a ton of glass. I just don't want it to be a boring box with drab-colored stucco.

Agreed. However, this might offer a more affordable hotel option downtown.
