APD's Parks unit was used to close Rainey down. They since been dissolved back into patrol which is critically short due to almost 200 officers leaving in the last year and another 20 officers leaving per month. I don't think they have the resources to shut it down along with enough manpower to adequately staffing 6th St and the rest of the city.

Wasn't it your beautiful mayor and city council who poo-pooed on APD?!? Maybe it's time to get them out and re-establish a fully-funded and functional police department in your great city.

Do cops usually escort funeral processions pro-bono? We saw one on the way home today with three motorcycle cops. If they have time/resources to do that...

Crime is up everywhere. I was compiling a list of the 2020 murders for Texas cities, and all of them had increases last year. Some had their highest numbers in 30 years. Midland also reported being short 35 officers. Austin catches a lot of flack, but every city in Texas is going through the same problems. And homelessness. I follow the news of every city in the state, and all the big cities have a homeless problem and none have solved it.

You have to pay for your police escort AFAIK. Usually its off-duty traffic cops.

Correct on both counts. We had to pay for police escort a while back for my dad's funeral back in 1996. It was arranged by the Funeral director. They have a list of officers who are off duty and have signed up for this extra duty. We were charged for each officer and a separate charge for the police vehicles. Not cheap, but worth it. We had to get dad from out by the Lakeline Mall to Pflugerville.

I don't understand why police escorts of funerals are occurring at 9092 Rainey. It hasn't even been built yet.
Is it becoming a thing to have your body paraded through Rainey after you die?
Perhaps this is Austin's version of a New Orleans jazz band funeral?
How much does the average funeral cost in New Orleans? In 2020, the median funeral cost with a service and a burial was $7,640 (though you may want to think of this as the base price). HOW MUCH DOES A JAZZ BAND COST? Average cost: $1,200.00 to $1,500.00, depending on the band.

Me? Personally? Nothing. I live in Nashville at the moment. But, thanks for your concern. I really appreciate it. You are in my prayers.

There's no mention of Bungalow though. So does that mean that the tower is no longer going to use that lot also? It's hard to imagine that would be the case.

Yes, it's disappointing to say the least. Watching the devolution of this building is a study in value engineering and cost-cutting - if not that then somebody please explain to me how they ended up here?

I hate the design or lack thereof, however! Austin has a lot of short buildings, sorry, the Indy and austonian aren't that tall in most bigger cities, so we need all the height we can get, ugly boxes and all. We have the republic to look forward to at least.

Independent is 690 ft with 58 floors. The simple math says that 11.896551724 per floor. Multiply that by 55 and that comes to approx 654 ft. That of course ignores things like the crowns and number of garage levels, but it's probably close enough of an approximation.
