This is one of the most embarrassing buildings that I have seen go up in a Canadian city in recent years.

Is that supposed to be "stained glass" for the "church"?

I'm sure that was the design rationale.

This tower sure turned out to be a disapointment, only saving grace is it is not too tall and will not be prominent from anywhere downtown outside of looking south down Thurlow. It will be blocked from:
- The south by new developments at Burnaby and Thurlow,
- The east by the existing St Paul's office/medical building
- The west by a new building as the adjacent strata building has been sold to a developer

Looks great in a pic with the colour washed out by reflections.

I really like the podium. The tower looks awful. If they carried some of the coloured glass up the tower, say as the balcony railings that would've made it look more cohesive.

Its very substantially "meh."

At least it hopefully provides more housing than what was there. (I cant remember)

Yeah, the tower looks truly awful, and it's too bad, because it's very visible from Nelson Park/Dave Village.

With any luck, it'll turn from white to off-green from weathering and fade into the background a little easier.

Yes, it was only a church before.

The tower looks very "West End" to me. I suspect this was totally intentional on the part of the architects; they've created an unobtrusive addition to the neighbourhood that could be mistaken for something from the 70s. If that's not to your liking, fair enough, but it suited the client and met every requirement for a rezoning and development permit. But what an improvement over the previous structure!

The final product has kind of a stubby Miami vibe to it. It's not to my taste but it's a small rental tower replacing a dilapidated church so it is an improvement.

The coloured panels give a church-like profile with the outline/illusion of steeples, etc.

Good observation, I didn't notice that but it's so obvious once you point it out.
