That view down Columbus Drive is going to be ICONIC from Day 1, and I'm so pumped about it.

Great photos Nick, the mouth of the river is going to be a worthy gateway of the most AAA-class cities on earth if all the current proposals come to pass. Even if half of them were built, it would still be transformative.

but yes, as a view-terminating tower, it's going to be an epic scene from one of chicago's most heavily trafficked thoroughfares.

You know what, you're right. That bend inward towards Grant Park south of LSE always throws me off for a second. ...but that's even better, now LSD has the Field Museum in one direction and Vista in the other. Talk about a scenic drive

It's a shame something better didn't terminate the view down Lake shore drive. But then again, it could have been worse.

That's the money shot view right there. Probably the one angle where its size relative to its surroundings is in your face from a far. I like the grand avenue leading up to the building masses. Always like those kind of angles (large highway/avenue) with tons of traffic, and in the distance, you have large towers that seem to swallow up the cars in the distance.

I wonder how long the east crane will remain, assisting the west crane with the center tower core. Any more crane jumps planned for it? I would imagine it could still jump up an additional 100-150 feet or so and still remain stable.

If we had it your way I’m sure a 2000 foot precast, yellow tower with bay windows, porticos and a mansard roof would be there, so I’m counting my blessings.

It’s a very cool view.

I’m still hoping for the day when they close Columbus to traffic and tear up the asphalt, turning it into the narrower pedestrian promenade that it was intended to be (like the one running through the middle of the Tuileries Gardens). That and covering the Metra tracks would be great outcomes from all of this residential development around the park, now that more people other than tourists are using it. But I guess I won’t hold my breath for either.

Question - is this the tower that was supposed to have an open gap at the bottom in an earlier iteration of the master plan? Because they would have actually been pretty cool given its view-terminating location. But probably not practicable for such a tall tower, either.

Lastly this seems to be one that regular Chicagoans (not skyscraper nerds) are excited for. I was at the Gleacher Center not too long ago and people were talking about it, and they’re not people who follow this stuff.

You might be thinking of the Arquitectonica Tower, a proposed 840ft. building, with a gap near the top, not the bottom. It, too, listed its address as 375 E. Wacker.

A description of the project at the time read as follows-
