The Lord on High (also known as 1487) has spoken.
All shall hence forth remain silent and not think further about this.
We all give thanks and bow down.

(would someone please tell me what this argument is about? My very clear memory is 1. the tower (to what point I don't know) was suppose to be the same color as the stone, 2. it isn't, 3. it could have been.
Even if I'm drop dead wrong about all those points, who cares!)

How about we move on to more pressing issues like the color of the W.W. bridge or dreaming about Comcast III and if it will over a 1K feet tall.

Who cares? City Hall looks nice. It would look nicer if it matched, and if the tower material had been used for the whole building (I like the super white), but it looks nice.

make jokes if you want- I know how these things work. Been there, done that. Everyone here has different backgrounds and areas of expertise. Rational adults can process that and accept it without much of an issue. You discounting what I'm saying is akin to laymen telling the construction experts on the site that they are all wrong when describing the details of the buildings we see going up around town. You only learn by hearing from people who know more than you do about subjects you know little about.

Can we talk about, like, high rises and stuff in the highrise thread?

Oh and has anybody noticed the new protected bike lane on Chestnut? Freaking f-i-n-a-l-l-y.

The City made a decision regarding the paint color. Whether they directly weighed in or delegated that decision to their Architect, they are the property owner and in the end are accountable to the citizens for that property.

If I get work done on my house that is not in compliance with historical standards, I can’t blame it on the contractor.

I don’t think the mismatch color is a big deal but your suggestion that we just assume that the paint not matching is the correct and only decision and that the City should receive no scrutiny in the matter, is exactly the type of argument of yours that everyone finds problematic.

Ok, so what the hell is your most learned and rational point? Please, I can't figure it out, other then you think you are always right.
And by the way, although I've never been directly involved in large projects in any prime way, and I have right from the start said I'm basing what I've said about City Hall on memory of articles written 20 years ago, I've been involved, meaning hands on construction, here in Philly in the restoration/ renovation field, for nearly 40 years. So, yes, I have been there , done that.
Restoration is rarely as simple as being given a list of specs and a pile of drawings and then the work proceeds in a straight line. Almost everything changes almost all the time; this includes the time line, the scope and methods of the work , and the budget.
And its often full of experienced and rational people who DON'T agree about what the best approach and/or methods are.

I'm done. I'm cooked. All this just because some one didn't like the color the bridge was being painted----------

Yep! I finally took my skateboard and rode along it this past weekend. This should have been done a long time ago, imo! Chestnut also feels calmer and MUCH safer to cross as a pedestrian.

Didn't say anything like that. At all. Someone posted an anecdote based on "something they read" at some point many years ago. We haven't even read the actual source material. I am saying the "facts" as they were laid out make little sense on multiple levels. Paint manufacturer color charts include the full range of color options for a particular product line. So the idea that only 3 were shown and it stopped there because some employee failed to ask for more colors makes no sense. Secondly, the architect will SPECIFY the desired color during design. The Contractor will simply have to offer a submittal showing they are providing the product desired by the designer- i.e. it complies with the drawings and specs.

Development Opportunities Map

I was bored so I made a map of development opportunities along Walnut, Chestnut, Market and JFK Blvd from the Delaware River to 40th Street. I would consider these 4 streets to be the main thoroughfares through Center City and University City.

we need to see some updates on projects like 702 sansom, 1911 Walnut, the PMC towers near the river, Hyatt Centric, 1300 Fairmount, etc. Lots of stalled proposals out there.

Agreed. I hope we aren't at the end of the boom but a bunch of stalled projects is usually a pretty good indicator. If we don't get that 1911 Walnut lot filled this cycle, I'm going to pull my hair out.

Blackwell attempting to work some of her magic again. Term limits please. Anything to get her to retire.

Well to paraphrase the late Great Communicator, there is nothing as permanent as a temporary government program.

I am trying to see by the picture posted in the Blackwell article but can't tell for sure. Is this the setup where the bike lane is to the left (looking east) of the parked cars? Like they do in NYC and a few other places? I really like that set up and hope it is. I feel that is much safer.

And yes, Blackwell is an idiot but she's smart enough to take advantage of an even dumber electorate who continues to elect her by wide margins to the point that I don't think she even faces opposition.
