If people think that then they should be willing to stay home when it snows, IMHO.

The only problem with that is that it can't apply to transit...

We had this argument already, and that was pretty much the reasoning.

Metro Vancouver is lucky if it gets a dusting of snow. If it gets a dump of snow (like it did in December) because of the climate, it rapidly turns to ice if not cleaned off right away.

When we get two dumps of snow in Metro Vancouver, it's rare, and the second dump usually doesn't last as long.

According to CBC: "A mechanical issue on the Canada Line near Bridgeport station briefly disrupted service, but the issue was resolved around 11 a.m. PT and wasn't snow-related."

Considering how much productivity is lost in Vancouver each time a snowfall causes thousands of workers to be late Translink should make the investment in snow tires certainly for the trolleys which largely serve north-south routes.

snow tires would be a stupid waste. how can you people think it wouldn't be? all that needs to be done is plowing, salting and sanding.

They should install heaters in the road to melt black ice and snow. And where's my free salt?

And install snowplows on all buses.

That was absolute chaos. I can't believe this happened twice without Expo or Millennium experiencing any problems?

Bus shuttle was an absolute insult. A small bus every 20 minutes it seemed. Totally unacceptable for the evening rush on a Friday night. Should've used articulated buses.

There weren't any buses, period. Waited for the 84 and the 99 for 90 minutes, ended up taking a taxi.

Called richmond red cab a few times when I was at Marine and they said they can't pick up from there.

Funny, there were Richmond cabs all over Broadway. Looks like tonight was good business for everybody.

I guess they are just dropping people off, the bylaw of city of Vancouver forbidden cabs from other cities to pick people up for most of the time.

Burnaby does the same. I needed a cab and required a van. $10 Premium charge they said was required. So I begged Blacktop who had a van in Burnaby to pick me up.

Well they were doing that yesterday apparently and it didn't work. Snow in Vancouver is heavy and wet and forms an icy surface very quickly. Unlike other Canadian cities our busses face significant hills on most routes. Since we've had transit fails with every snowfall this year it's clear what they're doing isn't working.

i wouldn't say the city was plowing all that much. when i was out yesterday in Vancouver there were quite a few main streets that had a decent amount of accumulation. they didn't get out early enough, had they, there wouldn't have been a problem.

Agreed. The fault is with Engineering, not TransLink. You'd think that after the big one in December, there'd have been a couple guys working graveyard, ready to call it in.

Hey Alpine,
Here are my ideas for rerouting some of the buses closer to myself in New West/Burnaby.
Summary:
101: Rerouted to Edmonds Station. Continueing on 12th till STM then moving over to 14th and picking up the rerouted 112 route.
112: Continuing further along Kingsway to Edmonds St, then down to Edmonds Station.
155/C9: Switch routing at Cumberland and Richmond St. 155 would pass more commercial buildings on E.Columbia St. and pass closer to Sapperton station.
