Regardless of whether it mimics Vancouver House or 508 Helmcken, it's a welcome and refreshing direction for high-rise architecture in Vancouver!

I'm trilled to witness this turning point and perhaps finally a direction away from a decade and a half of sea-form spandrel clad window-wall hell. I personally love this new organic influence and hope to see lots more of it! Can't wait 'til it makes an impression on our skyline!

From what I understand the lattice frame on Helmcken is actually a shading screen that changes angle and depth depending on the solar orientation. What surprises me about the West Georgia design are the huge projections, slab extensions, and cold bridging. How does this comply with the new ASHRAE standards?

I'm not the one to ask about that.
I understand the issue - that the slab extensions would result in the dissipation of heat, etc. but I'm not an engineer...

The building that's currently on the site is now empty and has fencing up around it

The Security company HQ that was there seems to have moved into a recent reno on the West Hastings block opposite Woodwards.

I imagine we will see demo soon.

Here's the project website with a nice rendering.

The zigzag canopies over the balconies could be metal? They look added on.

Those fins will be great for reducing traffic noise from West Georgia. Overall, a very good-looking project and I am not sure if there is any visible spandrel in the rendering (doesn't mean that there wouldn't be any).

The zig zags appear to be ornamental, and not balconies per se.

More for shading perhaps.

On the right/boring side of the building, there are two rows of spandrel that run the length of the building. Hard to tell, but I think they've just disguised it well to make the building more appealing-looking...
