So I was thinking the other day how much better the new Academy signposts would look if they lit up... turns out they do. There was one (just one) lit up today with an LED ring around the Biz sign. Guess it's just another part of that project that's moving really, really slow. Can't believe they still don't have banners up.

Also on the topic of lighting, I noticed today that the new LED street lamps actually do have a film/cover over them still (it was hanging open), so it's not unreasonable to think that hydro may be able to put a softening film over some of the future ones if the light is deemed too harsh.

I noticed this morning that the for lease/for sale signs are off the Hull's Books building and the lights are on... anyone know what's going in there? Something sexcii, or will it be the TNS site office?

Perhaps a "Buck or Two"? Actually, it would make a pretty cool pub, with some enhancements on the Carlton elevation. The red brick is a great start.

^ I'd actually take legit retail (including A Buck or Two) over yet another chain restaurant/sports bar type joint. The SHED is just saturated with those.

^^ A restaurant that isn't doing the typical pub fare would be a great addition to the area. As much as it might not be the best example a Ye's in the SHED area would be a nice change as it would be something different than "beer and burgers".

Sounds a little pie in the sky to me, but All Saints United Church at Broadway and Osborne is hoping to develop its land which occupies a prime site opposite the Legislature

The proposed solution: an ambitious redevelopment of the property — including a multi-storey building at Colony Street and Broadway at a cost of up to $15 million — Neumann believes could sustain the church, which includes Agape Table, in an era when not-for-profits are struggling.

Even if they can get it off the ground, I doubt $15 million would buy them much these days...

Would not be surprised if it ended up being the TN Square site office. Its in the right location and the rent was probably good with it being empty for so long. Saves them having to put office trailers on the street.

Gotta have faith.... I do agree though, the $15M/est. for an 8 storey office/commercial structure seems a tad bit low for what they've envisioned.

But in the grand scheme of design, this sort of development would be a welcome addition to the Broadway Biz's master plan.

All Saints is an Anglican church. The United Church and its forebears are/were not focused on saints and hierarchical figures generally, so it would be a very odd choice of name for a United church. That aside, I hope it is saved - it is a beautiful church that (with its predecessor that was a bit to the east) long served the mostly well-to-do people who had homes in that area.

^ No links/sources, but I was at the Manitoba Clinic with the newest bambino last week for a check up and I can tell you that the site is buzzing. The former Shell station and surface lot north of the gas bar are fenced off with equipment and workers doing their thing, and the top of the parkade is roped off as they have begun work on the parkade expansion there.

Needless to say, it's parking mayhem right now with all of those spaces out of commission... makes me yearn for the days when there were plenty of pediatricians at the Medical Arts Building downtown with its ample supply of parking nearby!

I do remember the Med.Arts Bldg. and going as a young-in, ample parking from the parkade (skywalk bonus) and the street level parking lot fronting the building..but we have the expansion to look forward to now, well if there's any MD's left in the building after the Lotto/MLLC expansion.

Based on the elevator tower having a couple of extra floors and how the previously existing walls had been notched for the precast expansion walls it seems to current expansion of the Manitoba Clinic parkade had been planned from when the original construction occurred.

It seems the plans are to use the surface lots to stage the expansion of the parkade, complete that then start construction on the tower. I would suspect when the new tower has been fully commissioned all the tenants of the existing building will relocate followed by a demo on the existing building. The existing building would eventually be replaced by the CancerCare expansion project.

Not sure if this is construction thread material (mods please move if required) , but the city has put out a RFP for a Grant Park campus project study, including a new library on the lands by the Grant Park HS, Pan Am Pool and Grant Park athletic grounds.
