Not necessarily. From what I found in a quick search, seems the average difference in temp on NYE is only a few degrees. NYC averages around 32F on NYE. Though I suspect the temp in Chi is more unpredictable from year to year.

No it's not. It's noticeably colder on average in the winter but it's not drastic - to say it's "much much" colder shows you haven't a fucking idea of what you're talking about, but I guess nobody should expect anything different from you on here. If we were comparing it to Miami or Houston, then yeah, go ahead and say Chicago is much much colder. However, compared to NYC? You obviously haven't spent an entire winter there. It's still cold in NYC in the winter. On average, NYC is about 7-10 degrees warmer in winter than Chicago, which again is not "much much colder." By the way, the historical high in NYC on January 1st is 39 while Chicago is 32. 7 degrees - noticeable yes, but not "much much colder"

As far as the actual celebration goes, which nobody actually knows anything about because all that was unveiled was a picture of some fireworks above the skyline - if they made it good enough, people would definitely go. I'm sure they'd have tents with heaters out there too. But this type of rhetoric from you reminds me when I think that so many Chicagoans are pussies when it comes to cold weather.

When someone says that NYC is "much much colder" than Chicago as if NYC is actually warm in the winter, I don't care what poster you are, I'm going to call you out on it. However you're right, maybe we should go easier on him even if we think what's being said is kind of out there.

^ LOL yeah that list is bogus. Just in the US alone on average SF, NYC, Boston, Honolulu, and DC are more expensive, and possibly Miami and San Diego. Seattle is about the same. No mention of Singapore on there either which is in the top 3 or 5 most expensive in the world. Anybody who knows Tokyo knows it's definitely more expensive than Chicago.

Note that the report excludes the cost of housing. One of Chicago's charms is it's cheap housing - it's not necessarily cheaper with that excluded.

True, though it's still bogus that a place like Singapore isn't above it. The price I paid at some restaurants when I was there a few years ago at pretty local, non tourist places, was ridiculous even for nice Manhattan standards.

I remember a dinner - there were 7 of us. Each person had a coconut, and as a group we share two whole fishes, about 4 winter melon soups, some crayfish, and a few other normal Chinese dishes with rice at a fairly non descript normal restaurant in Bukit Merah. The damage? $250 USD for that. You could get that for less than half even at a decently nice place in Manhattan. A few days later, 6 of us went to a normal Ramen place for lunch. $150 for 4 bowls of ramen and a few drinks and the ramen wasn't even good. Hell, even the casinos I went to were expensive. Most of the minimum bets at the two I went to for Baccarat was almost $100 USD/hand. For these reasons I like Malaysia way more. Not only better food there, but way way cheaper. Singapore is a really clean, green and nice city though, but no way is it cheaper than Chicago even if you don't count housing costs.

Equity Office Properties is dumping more money into the SunTimes building. One of the projects currently out to bid is entitled "Window Replacement". I nearly fell over in my chair at the thought of a new facade treatment... but it looks as if it's just like-for-like on the 4th and 5th floors.

Those are the highs, which usually occur in the daytime. Not at midnight.

Lows, respectively are 28 and 19.

Those are important degrees.
To put it into perspective, below 20 road crews will expect to use 3 times as much salt and have it take twice as long to work.

If you think a hip flask of Rye and some patio heaters will do the trick, then I predict an outbreak of frost bitten toes.

This list is not correct. Tokyo is a lot more expensive to live in for one, but they missed a lot of other cities. Maybe if you lived 40k from downtown or leased a tiny apartment with a bed and little else could you almost live on the same amount of money as in Chicago. The small apartments in Tokyo are smaller than a bathroom in Chicago!!

NYC isn't Florida in the winter. It can be and is very cold also. I remember someone using the argument that the Hudson never freezes over by NYC but the Chicago River does. You know what 2 things are wrong with that argument??

Yeah, I got an email from Nando's saying they are opening their new New City location on the 30th. The Arclight website is saying November for the theater.

Haven't heard of this project. Any other details? Is the alderman in support of it?

But not surprised they are opposed to it, which is really sad.
