I think that Related’s proposal will be unique. They plan a 1,500 room hotel, a theater, 20 restaurants, etc. I think that this can easily be a 1,200’+ tower, and I suspect that they will design something totally iconic. This could turn out to be a world-class destination in its own right like the Monaco casino.

no.

but luckily a stand alone casino is not even possible for the hy site.

it would have to be under a new msg or some tower.

While I understand some people's aversion to a casino, the idea of a massive convention-size hotel next to the city's main convention center feels not only like it makes sense but maybe should've been there a long time ago..

This neighborhood will continue to be a social void mostly filled with office workers and tourists until more local residential units are built - that's been the narrative since before phase one, and the original pitch for HY showed a cluster of different types of housing, schools, and leafy parks. Somehow I don't think spearheading the project with a ritzy gambling den will accomplish that...

The convention center hotel that was proposed - the 980 ft hotel proposed by Extell - was at the time going to be the tallest hotel. Currently the site is where the proposed Affirmation Tower would be.

All of that still stands. In fact, Related says there would be more housing.

The western yards, next to the convention center, would be a perfect location for a resort style casino.

A spokesman for the Gateway program said the aim is to begin construction this year on the new section, noting the grant expedites the process of lining up the necessary funding to proceed. It is one piece of the massive Gateway project, which is expected to receive several billion dollars under the infrastructure law.

"This is just the beginning," Biden said of the grants. "It's the beginning of finally constructing a 21st Century rail system that's long, long overdue in this country."

According to the White House, the money will go toward completing the final section of concrete casing near Hudson Yards, protecting the right-of-way for the future tracks connecting Penn Station to the river’s edge. The Hudson Tunnel Project will likely create around 72,000 direct and indirect jobs, according to the White House, and the completed project aims to reduce commute times and increase reliability for NJ Transit and Amtrak riders.

"This project is critical to transforming the Northeast Corridor; increasing speeds capacity, reliability and safety," Biden said, later adding: "The new tunnel is going to have two tubes with one track and each tube so they can keep operating up to one side breaks down. But it's going to be safer, more resilient, more reliable. The biggest rail line in the United States of America."

“The Northeast Corridor is the busiest passenger rail line in the country, and the crossing under the Hudson is its most important nexus point,” Biden said. “After a lot of hard work, and a lot of stubborn persistence, our efforts are finally paying off.”

I do hope Phase II kicks off soon. This should of been occurring already. Originally the time table was slated for 2024. Looking like the Gateway Tunnel is priority though. A drop in the bucket, the almost 300 million considering the 16 billion price tag for the tunnel (bound to rise as time goes by).

Phase II would sell with the residential, so IDK why the wait. Would just be a pity if they allocate time to this casino and miss out on getting the Phase II up and running (considering the elected officials might not even go with it, the risk).

Related CEO Jeff Blau said the proposed $10 billion development plan for the Yards’ entire western half will be kick-started by the 3 million-square-foot, Wynn-branded “resort” tower – which would also house a 1,700-room hotel to serve the struggling Javits Center — as the developer seeks to snag the precious gaming license.

“It will be one of the most incredible tall buildings in New York City,” Blau gushed Friday.

The table games like blackjack, craps, poker and roulette would take up 250,000 square feet in the new skyscraper – along with the high-end restaurants and shops that Blau hopes will attract both whales and guppies looking to try their luck on the far West Side.

Related, led by founder Stephen M. Ross, plans to retain a previously announced 5.5-acre public green park connected to the High Line, a much-needed public school for the area, and a 1-million square-foot rental apartment tower that will include 329 “affordable” units.

Blau’s chances for victory in the casino sweepstakes were boosted after projected frontrunner Steve Cohen’s proposal for a gambling and entertainment complex on state-owned land near Citi Field was shot down by a Queens politician last week.

Casino operator Bally’s also seems to be out of the running with its bid to place a gambling den on Donald Trump’s golf course in the Bronx because of a conflict with the city over leasing issues for the land.

Bally’s may make a last-ditch attempt for a casino in Cohen’s backyard with a proposal on private land at Willets Point.

Other major suitors who want to put a casino in Coney Island, Times Square, atop Saks Fifth Avenue and near the United Nations also face stiff resistance from local officials.

Blau’s main competition now seems to be coming from Long Island, where Sands’s bid to build a casino on the Nassau Coliseum grounds gained local approval last week.

Blau hopes his ace in the hole – of bringing the Javits much-needed hotel rooms – will trump Hoylman’s objections and probable “No” vote.

Related may also benefit from Ross being one of Hochul’s biggest donors.

“The Javits Center just expanded but continues to lose business to other cities because it doesn’t have a hotel,” said Blau, adding that Wynn is experienced at booking conventions and could be a big help in luring events from other cities.

“At some point a convention hotel needs to be near Javits and this would be it,” a source close to the project said.

Blau also said the new office tower would buck the current difficulties facing the city’s commercial real estate market.

Related’s four office skyscrapers on the site’s eastern half are nearly full, Blau said.

He noted that 30 Hudson Yards is fully sold to companies including KKR, while 10 and 55 Hudson Yards are 100% leased, and 50 Hudson Yards is already more than 90% spoken for even before it’s finished.

“ We could start building another office tower right now,” Blau said. “We’re out of room” for tenants eager to pay $200 a square foot for space.


Blau cited other factors that should make Related the odds-on favorite, such as access to the expanded No. 7 subway line and other mass transit, and the fact that no buildings or people would be disrupted because the western yard is empty.

Those who would be going for the casino/resort wouldn’t be going for the office towers. Their minds would be on the casino. If anything, you could question it the other way around. Did those companies who filled those office towers do so with the idea that a casino would join? Likely not. But I don’t think it matters. Hudson Yards is already Times Square west. This is still one of my top 3 picks, the others being Coney Island and Times Square. That’s if the state wants to get bang for the buck.

Before I even start, yes I know this is heavy hopium.

I hope this 3M sqft tower is even taller than the proposal for 418 11th Ave (the only one we've been shown)

Obviously it's likely to be more fat and squat, but I hope the hotel components and resort aspects mean the developers want it to be more tall to get higher prices.

you are exactly right, but i hope that wide base is a nice incentive to go tall.
