There were some fairly recent posts and a photo on SSC about that building that copied the Frost crown. I couldn't find it with a quick search, but I thought the building was somewhere around the Persian Gulf.

My 2 cents on the rendering. I can appreciate the effort to be different in design from any other building in Austin. But to be the tallest building in the city you need to be iconic. This building does not fit the bill. Design maybe scaled down before construction starts which could create something better in my opinion. Despite the "jenga" effect it is still a glass box. The Austonian trumps it in design and location.

I do see the similarities (from the 56 Leonard Tribeca site):

Also, it's a 60-story building that tops 800 feet, due to the relatively higher ceilings. Even at 58 stories, the Independent could have come close to that 800' mark...

Yes! If the Independent team would opt for 12 foot ceilings, then we'd be looking at close to 800'. 56-Leonard is the perfect example of how new luxury construction uses 12 foot ceilings as a benchmark. Adding the extra 2 feet on each level would increase views, credibility, and the legitimacy of their "tallest in Austin" campaign.

It's still a good marketing technique because most people fall into those traps. Honestly, the only problem with any of this is the fact that the ceiling height is not 12 feet.

Okay, so the ceiling heights for the top few floors are taller as I expected a few pages ago. That's good.

Add 6" to each residential level and increase the crown to an even 50' you would get a 712' tall tower...well clear of the Austonian.

Wishful thinking, I know.

So going with those numbers...

The Independent

685 feet - mechanical roof/screen

638 feet - main roof

626 feet - top occupied floor (58th floor)

for comparison, the Austonian:

683 feet - mechanical roof

622 feet - main roof

635 feet - top occupied floor (56th floor)

The Austonian is a special case since the top occupied floor is actually above the main roof.

You must be using Deep Throat in a completely different context...............

Anywho!, reality is if the highest occupied floor is lower than the Austonian's highest occupied floor then I can't see how they can go around advertising their tower will be the tallest residential tower west of the Mississippi. It's not only misleading it's false.
