The JW Marriott will top out on Tuesday. The final piece of structural steel will be put into place.

You can watch the topping out on the construction cam:

The JW Marriott will reach a milestone Tuesday when the final steel beam is hoisted atop the building, marking the structural completion of the shell of the $300 million convention center hotel under construction on Congress Avenue downtown.

I think of the current crop of U/C towers in Austin right now this is my favorite. I love the sheer glass wall on the East side, but the core-ten looking facade of the west side of the tower is beautiful. It's a shame it's so hard to see up close without the podium being in the way. Looks like it'll have good street level interaction as well.

Forgot this one...

Didn't really capture it, but I really liked how the light bounces off those vertical lines on the glass wall. Yesterday it was creating this diagonal cascading effect.

Thanks for sharing! The building has exceeded my expectations in design and impact on the skyline. The sheer glass wall of the eastern facade creates an excellent contrast with the surrounding buildings.

Nice pics guys. Now there's a leg of the tourism industry I bet the city or few others were expecting - skyscraper tourism. It's weird seeing people from Houston and Dallas coming here to see skyscraper construction. I never would have imagined it when I was a teen.

Yeah, me neither, at least not from my perspective from the 80's. But with all the activity we are seeing, it is a marvel to behold and worth seeing. The current and future highrise production is unbelievable and something enthusiasts need to see to believe. I still think this is epic for Austin and I know that's an understatement.
And thanks to all you guys for keeping the pictures coming.

Two of the posters above. Actually, though, if you spend enough minutes up at the observation hill in Butler Park you'll hear people commenting on the skyline. I overhear people a lot talking about how Austin's a cool city.

I was thinking with these vertical lines, I was wondering if they were thinking of lighting them at night. It would be a dramatic lighting design facing the convention center.

One of the tower cranes is supposed to come down this weekend. The last one comes down in late March.

I like seeing the brown paneling going up on the left. Soon we'll see the JW Marriott sign there.
