Wasn't there a notice for road blockages because it it's construction back a few months ago?

I'm trying to remember what that road closure was for.....but no, it wasn't this. This proposal is dead in the water, it'll never be built. Such a shame.

I wouldn't call it a shame. That thing was ugly.

I thought they asked for some kind of exrension a few months ago. They said the height was reduced to a bare minimum for viability, it went from 11 to 7 and to 6 stories when council made them remove the glass penthouse. I guess with each reduction it became less viable The original proposal probably would have been already built if they had allowed it.

Quote:
So far, none of the councilors are very keen on the 11 storey proposal.

"It's not acceptable at all," said Galgay.

They've asked Southwest Properties to scale things down a bit. Ken O'Brien says Southwest has submitted a tamer proposal for a hotel which would be six storeys high-and it will emphasize, financially, they think this is the smallest they can go. Both proposals are being assessed for bonus area suitability.

Contrasted with an eleven storey building, that six storey building will no doubt be far more appealing to some.

After all, as Galgay points out, "something has got to go there."

But does it have to be a hotel?

Ward Councilor Debbie Hanlon doesn't think so.

It wasn't the best design but there was definitely room for improvement. But everyone was so hung up on the height that design didn't even cross anyone's mind. By the time the "compromise" was made there really wasn't any more wiggle room for then trying to come up with a new design. I think what had happened here was the compromised building wouldn't be profitable with the number of rooms that could fit in the smaller building.

And 5 years later it's still an empty lot.
