That would be perfect scale for that corner, even if it was a story or two shorter. The flat side of the building would sync up nicely with the old Grafton's/Sirloin cellar building. Oh, and paint the streetcar yellow and blue.

Just for fun, I started making a render of what the US Steel pier could look like if it was completely redeveloped into residential/commercial spaces. I added a street layout that ties into existing streets. The green area is a waterfront park that wraps around the pier. A few of the buildings I put in are my own designs and the rest are just place holders...

^Would fit in perfectly anywhere in the city centre. You see a lot of this in other cities but not so much in the Hammer. Attempts at fitting new buildings into the existing fabric are often clumsy and jarring. See the Terraces on King or Cityview Terrace on Caroline or even the new commercial building on James North as examples. It seems developers/ architects just don't have the expertise here. Dunno...

^So many great opportunities for infill in Hamilton.

I've had my eyes on that huge swath of asphalt for years and years. Both sides of Barton between Mary and Wellington are ripe for it. The jail does put a bit of a damper on things, however. And don't even get me started on all the wasted space on the Mountain...

It would be nice to get rid of the prison, but I think it's going to be needed for a few decades still.

Yeah, building a new jail - at huge expense - essentially because the existing one doesn't fit in to the neighbourhood esthetically is unlikely to happen...like ever.

The old building that used to be there was set that far back, except it was for parking out front. I always thought it'd be nice as a parkette with patio seating for some restaurants.

Hell yes. If the lot at John and Main was developed, that park in front of the Courthouse would feel like a real urban park.

I've always loved the park in front of McMaster - that corner needs some height.
