Im actually quite pleasantly surprised by the design. Its fresh approach for the facade and the kitty corner entrance will definatly draw in visitors. And if he can pull this off on that budget, even more of a bravo for Mr Broad. I just saw a news report about the museum and an interview with Mr Broad on CNBC about 10 minutes ago.

Very surprised but in a good way. I had imagined a ultra modern but a very cold and hulking building ala CalTrans. But it's fluid and modern and takes nothing away from the Disney Hall. I like.

Hopefully, this will help jumpstart some development on Grand Ave. For too long it has sat there empty. Bunker Hill is downtown's 'cultural heart' and with The Broad, this should open the eyes of other architects to design other cultural establishments (I hope Zaha Hadid is reading this).

I wasn't in love with the "Broad" but its definitely growing on me. One of my only criticisms is the decision to make the main entrance on the north corner instead of the south. I get the idea of "flirtatiously" appealing to disney hall, but it seem the south opening would have been better incorporated in the public plaza and MTA stop on Hope...

Sorry off-topic but: I'm kinda confused about this guideline, because over the past 6 years here I've seen/read...hundreds? of complete articles....especially here, City Discussions and on Current Events..

The Broad looks great and looking at that fly-over video really shows how it will really fit in with its surroundings. Having a regional connector subway stop there is pretty cool too. Now if The Grand would get started...with Civic Park underway and the Federal Courthouse supposedly going up that part of town is going to look dramatically different in 5 years.

DTLA is starting to take such beautiful shape. Whereas Grand Ave used to consist of basically the Music Center and MOCA, it'll now include the Disney and the Broad, firmly establishing a contiguous fine arts complex with stunning architecture. Throw the park and cathedral into the mix and like Vangelist said, you've created an all-day destination. Same thing goes for Figueroa. Staples and LA Live are already turning around South Park. If the NFL stadium and development that comes with it actually gets built, that area will similarly become a spectacular sports/pop entertainment complex. Love the way they bookend the northern and southern extremes of DTLA. Lots to look forward to in the near future.

Actually, it is a box shape overall, but the biomorphic accents break it up nicely.

I like the vagina escalator.

I wonder if the concrete honeycomb shell will trap dirty easily and be difficult to clean?

It kind of looked like going up somebody's colon to me... which was the only problem I have with it.

Reminds me of tripe. But I like the way it looks in relation to its surroundings.

I initially didn't like it, I thought it looked like something that would've been built for the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. But it's grown on me already. It'll add visual interest to that stretch of Grand. I'm glad they didn't go for something conventional-looking. And I don't think it takes away from Disney Hall, and it'll face the plain side of Disney Hall anyway.

I posted before that I believe this will be the largest concentration of "high" cultural institutions on 3 blocks anywhere in the world (2 major live theaters, opera, philharmonic and related music, two art galleries, school of arts, REDCAT performance and development spaces). The Grand Ave. project might want to pick up on this and have outside performances in the plaza.

A nice link up Sunset to where the people are could be useful as well.

Wow amazing. L.A. is prime for developement right now. I hope all plans come to fruition. The stadium, mainly Genslar design is pretty decent and the plans for the broad museum just fantastic. Does anyone know the timeline for either projects?

Another concern would be birds roosting and leaving their guano. I hope they don't put those ugly little metal needles/spikes in those open spaces.
