Funding request to the Province was rejected. The city doesn't have any extra money either.

A spokeswoman for the ministry said the application was rejected because of the province's economic situation.
Vancouver Coun. Raymond Louie said there's no additional money available from the city for the event.
The city already contributes about $600,000 to the fireworks through such expenditures as extra police and fire staff, road closures and cleanup.
"We do not have enough in our budget to close that gap [$350,000]," Louie said
