All Sept 7 Bus Integration are to be discussed in here and not in the Metro Vancouver Transit Thread, unless it has nothing to do with the Canada Line of course. We'll let this open until September, but it would be closed indefinitely after that. I love how people are leaving last comments as if you guys cannot talk about the Canada Line ever again.

That being said, I've followed this first at Gamesbids, leading to the beginnings of the RAV SSP discussion: I really can't believe it's now completed and in operation.

Yea, there are surprisingly quite a lot of people using the system during the weekend.

And the segment between 49th Avenue and Marine Drive is the fastest segment along the entire line. The train zooms down this part. Having a station at 57th would slow down the line by quite a bit.

City Centre Station could use another entrance on the south end, a Robson Street entrance.

Yaletown would ideally have a second entrance too.

A second entrance for Broadway at Crossroads would also act as a new entrance for the underground Millennium Line extension.

And there are provisions for a second entrance to Oakridge on the northwest corner of the intersection (and the mall too?)....hopefully that gets built eventually.

FIRE on Canada Line guideway

People riding the Canada Line in Richmond overnight were forced to find another way after an electrical fire broke out on the guideway.

It happened at around 12:30 a.m. just north of the Richmond-Brighouse Station.

Jason Chan with the line's private operator, Protrans BC, says the spark was quickly extinguished by a Canada Line attendant.

"It was fortunate there was only one more train to run the inbound direction from Richmond-Brighouse to Waterfront Station, anyway, so there were only a few passengers being inconvenienced."

Chan says the entire Richmond branch had to be shut down, forcing southbound riders to get off at Aberdeen Station.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Canada Line service will operate as usual starting later this morning.

You're so lucky!! My area doesn't even have rapid transit. Not only that, I have to contend with buses that come at its highest frequency of 30 minutes for ALL bus routes and wherever I go (except for going to university), I have to transfer via the city's downtown.

Don't know if this has been mentioned before but ridership seems to have dropped.

that is very weird. i was reading the exact same article on saturday's paper(page A6 as i still remember) and i distinctively remember the figure being in the 70,000's. it's probably an error online.

Some comments about my observations about the Canada Line

(1) Train was very crowded yesterday at 4:20pm when I went from 49th to Waterfront. Lots of "tourists" like me.

(2) I decided to have a look at the bus loop and integration at Bridgeport this morning. I drove all the way to Steveston HWY on 99 and then turned back. Driving north, there are 3 lanes from Steveston HWY to Westminster HWY. The right lane is an exit only at Westminster HWY off ramp. Then the bus lane opens up just north of the off ramp. The bus lane goes almost all the way to Bridgeport Road. Buses take a left on Bridgeport and a right on Great Canadian Way. There is a left turn signal into the Bridgeport station, but it seems to be on red for a long time. I saw some buses turn when it was on red when there was not any oncoming traffice and a supervisor encourage it.

(3) The bus loop at Bridgeport is quite impressive. Different buses are assigned different bays. At each bay there is a map of the stops and the schedule in . There are large maps showing all the bus routes all around the loop.

(4) I was there around 10 - 10:30 this morning. Obviously it wasn't as croweded as it will be on a weekday, but there still were a significant number of people, including "tourists".

I don't know if it will be a "gong show", but tomorrow will be very intersting.

(5) Out of curiosity, what is the plan for the area around Templeton station. Is it going to be long-term parking for the airport? Will there be a park and ride? That station looks awfully lonely.

Tomorrow isn't going to be that big of a gong show. Classes for UBC aren't starting until Wednesday except for first year students. Wednesday is going to be the big test.

another local newspaper printed 77,000 average.

Regarding, Bridgeport Station, I did not see any bays for private buses, such as Greyhound, or the bus to Seattle, or Whistler. Do people know if there will be such services at that Station? It seems logical, given that it is a transit hub.
