Where to buy...in Hamilton

I really need a new pair of steel toe shoes for work. I could go to some crapbox warehouse on Appleby Line right now, but that wouldn't be good for our local economy. I don't know where to find them downtown so I'm hoping someone here knows.

Downtown suggestions only please. I waste enough time commuting for work, won't do it for shoes.

Miller's on James North has some safety boots on their website (steel-toe hiking-style ones by Timberland) but I'm not sure how extensive their selection would be. They are close though.

Actually, I think Hendry's on Barton carries safety shoes (steel toed & shanked).

I'd put in a recommendation for Work Authority at Barton/Nash. It's in the plaza where the Commisso's used to be. I've gone there myself, it's not bad. Good selection and fair prices.

Ottawa Boot and Surplus should be a consideration if you are on a budget. Mostly army surplus steel toes but some new things as well. It's just a bit South of Cannon on the East side.

I'm not really familiar with too much downtown. Rock N' Tee's has steel toe'd Doc Marten (and possibly others) boots I think, but they'll come at a hefty fee. I got my Doc's at Crash Landing on Ottawa St. for $20 any how. 14 hole steelies.

I bought a couple of pairs of Dr.Martens from RockNTee's on King Street some years back around 93-94 they were also still made in England at that time as well...I heard they are now made in China? I wonder if the quality is still the same?

I've used Lawlor and have no complaints with their gear. The James Street surplus (now Morgensterns) was great for the sort of manly wear required by hunters, lumberjacks, construction workers and roughnecks. Everything seemed to be insulated, ballistic-tested, steel-belted, and made of some flame retardant synthetic, a coarse plaid flannel or canvas as thick as a sheaf of jerky. Got a great pair of orange chainsaw boots there back in the day.

Not sure if you can get them downtown, but Doc Martens is making a "For Life" collection that is guaranteed for life. You buy them, fill in your warranty thing and send it in. Then they cover repairs on the shoes during your lifetime.

They're an extra couple bucks and they only come in the basic styles, but that's a pretty good deal in my opinion.

Yeah, when I looked on the website I noticed if you click on "safety shoes" in the dropdown it doesn't list any, but if you click on "Timberland" in categories it pulls up a few boots, one of which ("Titan") is a safety boot. I think it's just poor cataloguing/categories so I bet they do actually have that and maybe some other safety boots in stock.
