What do you think about a Italian Federal Republic??

I think you heard about Italian proposed about a federalism in the country, with economic indipendence. It will be cutted in 2 or 3 macro-regions.
This due to different culture in the north and in the south of country, different economics situation and other problems.
I'm curious to know what europeans think about, expecially germans cause they have this model (federalism) in their country..

Never heard of a specific proposal (but I know there have been ideas for many years). As a basic concept it is worth looking into, whether it'd be good for Italy is in the details: how would the federal structure work? If done poorly it'd be bad for Italy, but done right it might help the country.

I'm assuming you mean if the Po Valley and northern region - the Padania - would split off? Well, it won't work. Italy needs stay together.

But why does it need to do that? why wouldn't it work? Italy isn't known for political stability nor for political fair-play.

Well seeing how 30-40% or more in some industry workers are from the "south" splitting is not really the best idea, as it would cut the tax base.

second, a split will not happen. These types of articles pop up all the time as the regional parties talk autonomy. nothing new, both north and south.

More federal style, possibly. The autonomous regions could get more autonomy as well. Nothing more IMO.

Italy should be more democratic, but i do not think in a split as well. It continues to be like that as it is and was for decades.
