I still expect something will happen with it, but as I said then I have no idea when that would happen. With a possible olympics coming, and the resounding success of many tall chicago skyscrapers recently... it would seem stupid NOT to go forward with it.
Carley just plopped his 100 story building proposal right near the spire, so he seems to think the market is still healthy here, and it is even bringing in a new kickass hotel into a market ripe with new flashy hotels as is.
... This boom is mind blowing already, but I predict it will get even crazier.. mark my words. There is so much energy and momentum in this city now, and it can be felt every day when I am walking to work.
In reference to the photos above.. I dream that one day skyscrapers will completely fill in the deserted areas along the river and all the way up to the highway/UIC to the west.

We still haven't even seen the huge project that Smith/Gill is working on that will go north of River City. That will hopefully be a catalyst for more expansion into the underutilized areas South and West of the Loop.

Pandemonious, we were told at a recent association meeting at RiverCity that the board was looking into finding a different place to walk our dogs(we use that open space as a dog walking area) because in the near future that would turn into a construction site. no details were given but somethiing is brewing for that spot.

I really don't think Lake / Canal is anything. I've never heard of this, and there is no site for the building except the flatiron site there, which we haven't heard anything about. Please let us know if you know otherwise.
The alleged Trump II site that I heard was Wolf Point, but obviously he is not involved with that site. So, I don't know if there is a Trump II these days, especially since he's 70% and holding. However, if the Spire and Carley towers are both successes, I am certain that Trump will be furious and confident enough to plan another big one here.
Isn't there supposed to be an eventual third building (not supertall I think) that compliments the Legacy and Heritage behind the Michigan Ave. streetwall near Millennium Park by the same developers? Not sure if I have the details right but has anyone heard anything on this front?
It's a fitting question for Zaya Younan, bona fide property mogul and chairman of Younan Properties Inc. He announced in the Sun-Times two months ago that he wants to build the world's tallest building, and then some. Now, he said he has narrowed his search for a site to Chicago or Houston. He's ruled out Los Angeles.
Younan, who invests in office properties, said he's consulting with experts in aviation regulations and engineering on a 3,000-foot-tall building, twice the height of Sears Tower. His stated aim is to bring the crown of "world's tallest building" back to the United States. He also said he wants to capitalize on a trend toward vertical living and would include so many uses within the building as to make it a self-contained city. He talks about things like schools, hospitals and museums and said he's researching specific sites.
It's tempting to write this off as wacky self-promotion. But who knows? If he can spare space for a children's museum and a casino, I bet he'd get Mayor Daley's OK.

There was just a blurb mentioning that guy last week in that article over in the CS thread that made everyone get all worried right before the CS sales center tour. It was the Tribune I think. Anyhow, it mentioned that guy, 3000', WTB, and Chicago... Whether or not that guy can deliver is an entirely different story.

No, that 3,000' "project" is just too goofy at this point to be added to the list. And Honte, all of my information comes from postings to this thread by others. I have no independent knowledge of anything. The Lake & Canal project came from a cryptic post months ago, and probably is nothing at this point.
It seems like there has been another delay at Astoria Tower - doesn't look as though the site has changed at all in the last few weeks. Isn't the developer (Provence) really William Warman? Hmmmm...... Could Fioretti be trying to hold this one up??? Wouldn't surprise me if that were the case, as he reportedly told Warren Barr (Renaissant), I believe one of Warman's partners in the former Legacy Development outfit that he wouldn't approve anything of his until that window problem was cleared up at that Prairie District POS high-rise that's home to a lot of the PDNA NIMBYs..........I could definitely imagine Fioretti trying to strong-arm Warman to resolve the window problems at that tower with some sort of illegal permit nonsense............... Of course I'm just speculating here, but can anybody in the know confirm or refute any of this???

The hideous Marquee Michigan. You can't see the paint they're eperimenting with in this picture, but it promises to get even worse; the unfinished concrete looks more like stone than the paint will.

Finally, sad farewell to the trees at 505 N. State. Not a great picture, but it was pretty impressive to watch the extraction process. Apparently they're being replanted at a nearby park.
