West Texas kid rides Bubble Wrap all the way to New York

SAN ANGELO — It isn't every day that a kid from West Texas wins a free trip to New York for building a 2 1/2-foot replica of the Empire State Building out of Bubble Wrap.
Heck, it isn't every day that anybody anywhere builds anything out of Bubble Wrap. Mostly you just pop it with your fingers, right?
But Megan Guerrero, 13, was able to resist that urge enough to create an objet d'art out of Bubble Wrap, and today she'll be taking off for the Big Apple. She's one of the three finalists in Bubble Wrap's first Competition for Young Inventors.
About 800 kids from all over the country entered stuff made out of Bubble Wrap.
The actual Bubble Wrap Empire State Building consists largely of sheets of Bubble Wrap cut, shaped and stacked around a wooden dowel and decorated with a tiny American flag. Glue also was used.
Why did Megan pick the Empire State Building?
"It was one of the most common buildings in America, I like the way it looks, and it's well known, too," Megan explained.
