Really sad to see it go. I do think the price point was a little too high for the service it was providing, but it was a good option. Just used it recently to connect to Halifax for a European flight. Was looking at potentially using it again but I guess that stops that plan.

For the pricing, in order for it to have been a big success, your price point needed to get as close to the price to fill your car for Halifax and back plus a uber/bus from the airport to downtown.

Like I said, 1 step forward, 3 steps back.
I am with you on this. Any airline that "pilots" a route with a single offering a day, is shooting themselves in the foot. When I plan travel, I am always considering, what will happen if my flight is cancelled. If BEST CASE is that you get on a flight a whole 24 hours later and only if it is not full, I will not chance it. Especially when I can just drive...

The pricing was also an issue, and the difficulty connecting with other airlines was cited by a few friends as reasons they did not support the route.

I was hoping that that Pascan would redeploy resources for a YSJ-YHU route

Water salute for the inaugural YHU/YQM route via Porter.

I see the WestJet flight to Edmonton has started up again for the summer as well.

Current Active Destinations from YQM:

- Deer Lake/St, John's (PAL)
- Mont Joli/Wabush (PAL)
- Montreal Trudeau (Air Canada)
- Montreal Metropolitan (Porter)
- Ottawa (Porter, Air Canada)
- Toronto Pearson (Flair, Air Canada)
- Toronto Billy Bishop (Porter)
- Edmonton (WestJet)
- Calgary (WestJet)

I don’t see a huge demand for the Moncton-YHU route when Moncton already has direct flights to Calgary and Edmonton. YHU really just provides YQM with connectivity to Vancouver and Winnipeg.

That's a valid point.

YHU doesn't have the competitive advantage over YUL that Billy Bishop has over YYZ.

Billy Bishop is just so damned convenient to downtown Toronto, and, the terminal is much easier to navigate than YYZ. YHU is almost as far from downtown Montreal as YUL is.

The potential for connections elsewhere from YHU is muted because YUL has a legislated monopoly for international flight in greater Montreal. The only potential for connections is to western Canada, and, as you say, Moncton has direct WestJet flights to Calgary and (seasonally) Edmonton.

I guess it boils down to whether or not you prefer Porter over WestJet. All things being equal, I like Porter better.

Wouldn't be a shock for Moncton to have a direct flight to London and Paris by 2030 at least in the summer months. Which then opens up a whole host of connections around the globe.

We once did have a seasonal flight to Paris (Corsair I believe).

YHZ is sucking up all the oxygen for regional trans-Atlantic flights to Europe, but. I continue to believe that the Acadian connection might make a Moncton/Paris route viable.

If Moncton snatches up a trans-Atlantic route, that opens the door for not only people from Moncton but also Fredericton and Saint John. Why take the connection west if you can drive 90 minutes and take a direct from Moncton.

You're right about Corsair. Canada 3000 also had direct Moncton to Paris fligths in 90s up until the airline went bankrupt in 2001.

Condor airlines also few 757-300s into Moncton from Hannover Germany for a few summers. There are a lot of German connections in SE NB.

Booked a flight to Winnipeg on flyporter.com (in English) and got this cute réservation email en français from Pascan for the YSJ<->YHU portion of the booking:

Who should I be contacting at the NB Secretariat of Official Languages to report this deeply concerning linguistic violation… or are airlines operating in NB not required to provide communications in both official languages?

(I jest about the “deeply concerning” part, but I do think if it was the other way around, this “violation” might be covered as a news story )

Though I must say… props to Pascan advertising the YSJ<->YHU route on the front page of their website.

Not only is it nice to see them advertising the route on their main page, it’s nice to see them spell it out Saint-John, NB … which nips the SJ/SJ’s confusion right in the bud.

Nonetheless , I still I think it would benefit the airport and the region as a whole (and drastically reduce the confusion between the Saint John’s and St. John’s airports) to see the Saint John Airport rebrand as something like the Bay of Fundy Airport (YSJ).

Such branding would be far more marketable and better help the Fundy Region achieve or succeed its tourism goals and aspirations.

I filled out the survey. The more people who fill it out, the more likely it would be to attract the interest of a potential operator.

My daughter flew out of YSJ for the first time in several trips the other day. She basically won the travel lottery.....the PAL Q400 scheduled to operate the flight was replaced by an Air Canada Jetz A320! (70 business class seats and huge leg room) Too bad it was the 1 hour leg of her trip and not the 5 hour one!

Everyone fill this survey. It really is unfortunate that we had this service 20 years ago but not today. We should try very hard to get this service back and I think 3x per week would surely be viable.

I did. And like I said on the Moncton thread, I wish we could select all that applied/answer all of the above on the primary function of CDG for me if it were established.

I replied to the survey. I think if let’s say Air Canada would like to make a run at this they could use the Airbus A220-300 across the pond. This aircraft is ETOPS certified. Or they could use their Max’s. But for me the A220 is a game changer Air Canada uses it on their Halifax to Vancouver flight and the aircraft is a very comfortable aircraft in a 2X2 configuration in Business and a 3x2 configuration in economy.

It wont be AC that is for sure and it wont be an A220. There isnt currently any operator in either airport in Paris that has an aircraft that would viably operate the route aside front ASL and they already fly to St Pierre et Miquelon.

The A321xlr would be ideal 3x weekly and the only airline I can think of that could conceivably entertain the idea is Air Transat and I dont think they have any interest in doing it.
