A few updates from Calgary Glenbow museum renovation. The outside is being re-clad, but also a lot of change to inside, with a larger atrium with natural light coming from above.

I'm sorry but this is just hilariously terrible - like they went out to design literally the worst project possible. It looks like a suburban Hampton Inn from 1998 with an odd medieval twist to it. The rendering even has the 1990's wordart in it lol.

I wasn't expecting much from the Glenbow reno so call me surprised. However, the atrium looks like an interrogation room in some futuristic fantasy blockbuster. Huge wow factor. Just plain odd when you set that aside.

Pad for the tower crane for the Gateway Towers on the Petitcodiac riverfront in Moncton NB. The tower crane itself will be erected this week. It is being moved over from the Three Sisters across the street. The Three Sisters are nearing the end of construction.

You can see the excavation for the first tower. The renders below show what both towers will look like.

A lot has been happening behind the scenes at Portage Place, and with the removal of the atrium’s north and south exterior walls, this work is now more visible along Portage Ave.

Over the next few months, the area over the former atrium will see existing bridges and glazing removed and Edmonton St. reconnected as part of the project’s vision to bridge north and south Portage neighbourhoods.

Concurrently, demolition and reconstruction will continue on the healthcare tower, and in later winter, the new Healthcare Centre of Excellence will begin to rise above the block between Edmonton and Carlton.

Construction at Americold finishing at Port Saint John. It will be the largest cold storage facility on Canada's east coast.

The speed at which this gargantuan facility went up was very impressive to see.

This guy should be running the Saint John Region and Port's Departments, because his videos basically already do. No one sees this city better than he does!

Truly, the guy is one of this city's most valuable tourism assets, and he's also been a huge help to the port in getting their message out about the incredible opportunities at in Port Saint John port with his excellent videography.

Kit at Kensington. Not a really tall one, but at 15 floors will be a new tallest for Calgary's Kensington neighborhood. The neighborhood is mostly low rise buildings in the 6-11 floors range, so this is a departure from the norm, but might be the beginning of a trend. Another developer is also looking at a zoning change to allow for a 16 floor building in the area.

This video by him has a cool time lapse and shows the currents in a dramatic way.

That's often the case, amatuer enthusiasts are more passionate and dedicated than people who's job it is to do the same thing.

Another example I think of is Stainer, who does incredible explainer videos on rapid transit line construction. There's no way someone working for Translink in Vancouver or the relevant transit authority in Edmonton could/would do the same. Maybe because they wouldn't be alloted the time to create something this good, or they may not care as much. Here's a recent Edmonton example:
