It’s fitting that the University of Calgary architecture school would be in an office tower.

Great to be downtown. I wish University of Manitoba’s architecture school would move from its suburban campus.

Lol! True. Not sure if that’s a diss though haha…

I’ve always loved that building. I think it won a governor general architecture award or something when it was built in ‘82.

Three towers to be built on Ogilvie road at Cummings avenue in Ottawa, 21, 20 and 24 floors, replacing a strip mall and stand alone restaurant. The 21 storey tower will be built first.

Area is a mid-century suburban stroad that has seen a lot of development since O-Train Line 1 opened, with Cyrville Station nearby (which was part of the Transitway for many years before, only spurring suburban medium density in the past). Ottawa's second tallest tower is across the street, several low and mid-rises built over the last few years and a half dozen towers in the immediate vicinity have been approved.

This recent article goes against the latest proposal submitted to the City for two towers, 21 and 30 floors.

Winnipeg Alexander Docks Revitalization

Alexander Docks Revitalization
Location: 70 Alexander Ave
Developer: The Forks - Go to the Waterfront
Architect: Scatliff Miller Murray | Narratives Inc.
Status: In development
Documents:Media:Description: The Alexander Docks in the Exchange District are slated for restoration. The Forks Renewal Corporation issued a contract in January 2025 to develop designs for the redevelopment of the historic docks, with work potentially starting in 2025. The final design is expected to be completed by the end of April 2025, though no specific timeline for the reconstruction's completion has been confirmed. Options under consideration include a full rebuild with modern materials, which would have the longest lifespan and lowest maintenance costs but may not preserve the historic look of the docks. Demolition costs are estimated at $700,000, excluding the cost of new construction. The redevelopment plan announced on August 14 2025, will transform the former industrial site into a public waterfront space, is estimated to cost nearly $11 million. The project includes plans for a riverbank park, new streets, and a public plaza, with construction expected to begin next year and be completed by 2027, the city aims to create an attractive destination with green spaces and public art.

^ Most of those are very cool! Not that enthused about the last one, though. It's not Waterloo student residence or anything but a bit generic.

Edit - just checked it in more detail, the database shows only projects completed in 2025 for Calgary and is out of date for Edmonton, so I wonder how up to date it is. Which I think is the inevitable challenge of these things, there is so much out there to keep track of and on top of.
Hmmm, it should show all completed projects for any date from about 2016 onward IIRC. At least when filtered on 'completed' I'll check with surrealplaces, maybe there's a glitch?

it looks like recently they have started updating the database component for Calgary again. Calgary is the busiest subforum other than Toronto, so it makes sense. Ottawa has a busy subforum there as well and I could see the database returning there as well.
That's correct. It's called Skyrisecities, but is somehow associated with Urban Toronto. Edmonton is also a very busy forum as well. https://edmonton.skyrisecities.com/forum/. There's also one for Vancouver, but not as busy. It's mainly Toronto, Calgary and Edmonton.
The Calgary side is maintained by 2 or 3 people, one of them, Surrealplaces posts here sometimes. As far as I can tell the Calgary forum is up to date right to the day more or less. Though Edmonton's forum is busy, it's missing a bunch of projects.

Calgary Bridgeland proposal. This one similar to the Dominion towers (same developer) that went up a few blocks to the west.

Thanks for the info - yah I left out a word in my original post, lol - about the number of projects completed in 2025, it was a really low number so I wondered about how up to date it was. To be fair that's probably low on the priority list and not always easy to figure out especially for the smaller projects unless someone actually walks/drives by. It's very impressive and I appreciate all the work Surrealplaces and others are putting in. Would be nice to have a country wide database or summary of activity in each city, I think there are national reports for cities on that in terms of housing starts, but not so much in terms of what's coming down the pipe.

Really enjoyed seeing the Winnipeg developments, that Quebec proposal is good too, funny how a simple curve on the corner can make a big difference. As for the last Calgary proposal above the balconies are quite deep which gives it a more dramatic look, but also a heavier and busier look as well.

Love that Calgary proposal. Proves you can have a great design under 20 floors.

The new Downtown Hamilton YMCA is apparently receiving federal funding. The project would involve a replacement YMCA and 600 co-op units in two 32-storey towers on what is currently a surface parking lot:
