That's just silly, and had no bearing on this proposal, and besides bids are due next month. As far as Related goes, they got exactly what they wanted - a plan to get the second phase built. The casino was just a means for them to do so, but with the City Council deal, they don't need the casino.

Related had already dropped the office tower on the southern half of the site in favor of 2 additional residential towers with the casino plan just a few weeks ago. Now that the casino is no longer part of the plan, what changes is the northern half of the site.

They say it could begin next year. What's exhausting for me is the fact that this development was always going to feature tall buildings arround the High Line. People, including politicians, used the High Line as a talking point. But it was always going to be a development of large buildings in any scenario.

Now, we have what could potentially be 4 supertall towers rising in the second phase (that remains to be seen, as most of it isn't really designed yet). The podium, while reduced in height, will still get built, though there will be a pedestrian "thruway" that devides it. If there is any point to it at all, its that now the development won't have a casino. It's great that this will finally get built and completed (before the WTC even), but I see nothing in this second phase to attract anyone outside of the people who live and work there. Of course, the High Line will still attract tourists, but Hudson Yards will remain as is.

As planned in 2009 with 8 towers, compared to 6 in the current plan...the biggest difference is the removal of the 2 center towers (which were never supposed to be there to begin with). The size of the development remains the same.

The current plan is based on this modified plan that was submitted as an alternative should the casino not advance...

I would assume SOM is still working on the development...

The 4,000 housing units are concentrated in the 3 buildings on the southern half. Obviously, the height numbers will change, especially on the north where the podium was reconfigured and programming is still in flux....

Meanwhile, the tunnel casing should be complete next year, in time for any work to begin...

Hudson Yards Concrete Casing – Section 3 Passes Halfway Point

By TBM Staff
May 20, 2025

Quote:
The Gateway Development Commission (GDC) announced at its Board meeting May 20 that the Hudson Yards Concrete Casing – Section 3 (HYCC-3) Project is more than 50 percent complete and is on track to be finished in 2026. The project reached this significant milestone on schedule and on budget.

The Hudson Tunnel Project (HTP) is the nation’s most urgent mass transit infrastructure project, which will provide reliable, 21st Century train service into, out of, and through New York, and end the immediate threat posed by the 115-year-old tunnel between New Jersey and New York.

The HYCC-3 Project is building the final link that will enable the new tunnel to connect to New York Penn Station. The other two sections of the concrete casing were completed in 2018. This section is approximately 500 feet long, 60 feet wide, and 60 feet deep. Its structure will consist of heavily reinforced concrete ranging from 3.5 to 10 feet thick with a waterproof membrane covering its perimeter.

Construction of the HYCC-3 Project is supporting 4,820 jobs and $986 million in economic output. In total, construction of the HTP is projected to support 95,000 jobs and drive $19.6 billion in economic activity.
Quote:
GDC CEO Tom Prendergast said, “We talk about the HTP as a single megaproject, but when you think about the scope and complexity of each construction package, it is more like ten megaprojects rolled into one. Reaching the halfway point on the HYCC-3 Project on scope, schedule, and budget is an amazing accomplishment that speaks to the entire GDC team’s expertise and dedication, but our work is just beginning. I look forward to leading this talented team as we build on today’s milestone to deliver this critical project.”

“Amtrak is proud to celebrate this tremendous milestone with GDC and all of our partners as it reflects what we can accomplish with our strong collaboration and the effort from our hard-working construction teams,” said Amtrak President Roger Harris. “We look forward to completing the next 50% of this critical infrastructure project, and continuing to deliver the Hudson Tunnel Project and larger Gateway Program, all of which highlight our commitment to building great American infrastructure.”
Quote:
Five of the 10 construction projects that make up the HTP are currently in progress and GDC anticipates awarding contracts for two more projects in 2026. The five active projects are supporting the creation of 20,200 jobs and $4.5 billion in economic activity. 94 percent of capital spending is expected to be sourced from American companies.

.....The Manhattan Tunnel Project will build a section of the new tunnel connecting to the Hudson Yards Concrete Casing and an access shaft at 12th Avenue that will be used to remove the TBMs that build the portion of the tunnel under the Hudson River. GDC awarded the contract for this project in February and early work began in April.

Now getting a look at the air vent for the new tunnel, just below the site. Not bad for what it is.

They say the apartments will be mostly rental, which increases the chances of this being built quickly, or with some overlap.

It’s my understanding that the city agreed to the means to “finance” the deck and that it will start in 2026. I’m pleased that the west yards will finally proceed.

I’m no Pollyanna, but I think that Phase II might be extraordinary. The park alone will be magnificent.

The green space is what makes it for me. It'll feel like an even bigger transformation than phase 1 IMO.

(Please excuse the blend of perspective with isometric on this one)

Will we get redesigned towers? What will the casino be replaced with? Class A office makes too much sense so the local CB will probably force Related to add 10,000 new housing units at market rate instead (starting at $4.5m for a studio).

We are getting 6 great towers, 4 of which are supertalls.

And, in the grand scheme of NYC, it's a drop in the bucket.

Everything that was approved is stated above. Everything is different except for Tower A.

Tower A looks great, so this is good news. Do you think that the platform will start in 2026?

Blau discusses the shift to offices…

https://www.hospitalityinvestor.com/...eart-mixed-use

Quote:

“When we started Hudson Yards, we thought that significant demand would come from residential and retail,” Blau said. “But the big story has really been office demand. We went on an incredible journey to coax CEOs there at the start; now we have around 15 million square foot of office space, with no vacancy, and are the centre of business and commerce for New York City.”

While offices will be a part of the future of Hudson Yards, with the recently announced phase two comprising what will be the first new office tower project in the city post-Covid, Blau also covered the group’s exciting hospitality developments.
