We are a pro-developer and pro-density forum but there are many small developers who stand to lose from the SFH rezoning changes. The majority in the Metro Van area don't want density and want to ensure the status quo.

I highly suspect several NDP "safe zones" to actually flip based on what I've seen on the ground.
Someone on reddit posted on reddit that they found a conservative sign stapled to their fence, they did not ask or have homeowner approval to do so.

The provinvial government enables many to come here with the PNP program. Students are chasing PR and would probably fuck off if there were more barriers.

Barriers such as capping international student enrollment altogether? The Dippers are way ahead of you.

Only Quebec is allowed to do that.

And the irony there is this same argument is being used by people who oppose the small scale multi-unit housing and TOD legislation, which the Conservatives have said they'd roll back. Claiming that they are somehow being forced into upzoning, when there is nothing of the sort written into the law.

It's actually pretty explicitly pro-freedom to let property owners add reasonable density to their own land.

I have a hunch that a BCC government would scrap the NDPs housing laws but then release their own that have the same effect, just instead they either threaten to withhold funds if cities don't comply like PP wants or provide cities that opt for the plan extra money to pay for infrastructure etc.

This was such a minor fix. The biggest offenders are those private colleges aka diploma mills. The province had due cause to shut these bullshit colleges down but actually recognized these bullshit diplomas for various job requirements.

Politicans are cowards or have a vested interest in enabling this. I do think the BC Cons will turn a blind eye and do nothing to really address all this rampant fraud.

It was the ex-Libs (now Cons) who allowed the diploma mills to get set up in the first place. You don't drain the swamp by electing the people who want it to stay full.

Unless of course you’re the Special Child of Confederation, aka Quebec.

So we're just making things up that we think they'll do? BCC is pandering to Nimby homeowners, there's zero indication they would do anything close to upzoning the entire province like the NDP have.

I think you're discounting the egos of municipal politicians and protecting their turf from "Victoria". Look at every city that was complaining about meeting their provincial housing targets.

Pets can cause a lot of damage and I think that should be within the discretion of the landlord. Strategically, it's a good move by the NDP because they're already doing poorly with landlords so they can only gain with this move. But this isn't an issue that is going to lose me support with the NDP so.

Just based on 1. This is Poilievre's policy too 2. The BCC is going to do poorly anyways with urban areas, so it's not like they're going to risk any ridings with their own policy. But yes, just a speculation. That is why I said it's just a hunch.

New Research Co. Poll has NDP statistically tied with the BCC

NDP has a big 12 point lead over the BCC with 55+ voters, up 1+ with 35 to 54, and down 10 points with 18-34 voters. This seems pretty bullish for the NDP.

It's more interesting when you look at the "Which of these party leaders is best suited to deal with each of the following issues?" section. 49% of 55+ respondents say Eby is best for healthcare, vs only 23% with Rustad. This would suggest it would be wise for the NDP to attack the BCC on healthcare and privatization.

However, I wonder how much these polls get the immigrant vote, as was previously discussed. It will be a huge deciding factor in the suburbs that are not in Eby's favor.

Basic immigration, no, but they control private post secondary institutions in their province, which seems to be the main source of our immigration issues.

i have a hard time understanding why people ignore the economic impact of these students have on our institutions and cities

imo the economic benefit of international students is outweighed by the housing constraints they put on (but this could be resolved by more supply). However, something should be said about the negative effect diploma mills have no tarnishing Canada's academic reputation.

If working British Columbians can't afford a roof over their head than pretty much any "benefit" derived from international students is moot.

Saw the Cons attack ad yesterday linking Eby with Trudeau and their failed decrim policy. It seemed kind of amateurish.

LMIA fraud, immigration fraud, fake asylum claims, supressed wages, increase strain on infrastructure and health care....

If our economy needs to rely on growth over 1.5 mil people per year than we are seriously screwed.
