The two huge elms at Officers Square that were kept during the reconstruction are dead or dying. That really sucks. It will take a life time to get trees that size again. I don't want to be that person, but, I think the construction may have killed them. But there are many other large old elms around the city that are dead or dying too.

Terrible loss. Inoculation is cheaper than cutting them down, but of course it was too expensive to do. The elm is going the way of the chestnut.

Reading further on Elm trees if seems that they are very adaptable to construction. I think they may have just been struck by the disease. It takes decades to grow them to that size. Very very sad.

A quote from Richard Hall, a worker from the forestry dept. from the Daily Gleaner in Sept 2023:

"The city still has 100 or so very old specimens in the city centre and Devon on the north side that are treated every three years with a fungicide, but even that doesn’t work when infected roots intertwine, Hall says...."

Appears Good Life Fitness will be setting up shop at the Corbett Centre taking over the former BB& B/Rooms & Spaces unit. It is now listed on Rio Can's website.

https://riocan.propertycapsule.com/p...view/id:113573

I assume this would mean the GoodLife Fitness Centre at Uptown would be leaving that facility for the unit at Corbett

Also listed is Philthy Philly's Cheesesteak and Poutinerie

According to the agenda for Monday’s city council meeting Lemont House is being sold to State Street Properties for $1000.

Interesting. They have a bit of a mixed portfolio mostly residential rentals but also some retail. I assume that this would be retail but perhaps the upper levels could be residential.

City will just be happy to have this off their plate.

They have developed some of the more higher end developments downtown in the past several years. Will be interesting to see what they have planned for this property

I see RioCan now removed GoodLife Fitness and replaced it with “Leased Space”.

Apparently staff at GoodLife Fitness have no idea about a move or new location here.

So the space is "leased space" instead of "available" like CRU E002? Would mean they have an an agreement in place for that space but are holding back the client's name? Usually where there is smoke there is fire...

A few weeks ago I drove by the Risteen building lot and saw a lot of soil. Any news on that development?

The soil and related materials is for temporary storage by the city for use on the Lower part of Northumberland Street upgrade currently taking place.

The last official word re the Risteen building from the owner via the local newspaper was several weeks ago (April) basically saying it is still a go but design had to be updated due to cost. At that time the owner was working on an 8 storey/90-100 unit design. He stated that the soil tests indicated that was the maximum height that could be accomadated on the site without having to aquire adjacent land. The article inferred that any construction, although possible late this year, was more likely in 2025

Went down to check and I think it's just a soil storage area or something.

This was the last news that I saw in the site. Developer hopes to get the project moving this year... If course this is five years after the tear down.

The sale was approved 6-5 at last night's council meeting. Not many details on the proposal other than it will have to be restored according to the hertitage guidelines and redevelopment will have to go through the normal development process ie PAC. first, second and third readings.

A colleague and I looked into it for mixed use (office/residential), but Aquilini was unwilling to come to a parking arrangement. Here's hoping State Street can do something with it. Needs to be gutted but no super scary issues.

Indications from the council meeting was that this would be a residential only (17 units) development with no public access ie commercial. Did not mention anything re parking. Gotta figure the developers have to have a plan
