I read about this today in the Vancouver Sun article online, most comments hate it and one guy said we are being lied to there is no way that is only 35 storeys lol. You'd think they want to build the Burj the way some people see things.

looks good, great to see some height there.

Is the skytrain line really going underground that far back on this plot of land? I thought much more would be "open", unless this development includes more enclosure of the line somehow. Check the aerial veiw.

The tunnel entrance location can be seen on this picture. Thanks to giallo!

Nice, earlier than I thought. I guess there's a lot of filling in to come on that site.

The only thing that kind of bothered me is the cylindrical building protruding out into the sidewalk area, creating a dangerous choke point at the intersection. Imagine a car lane just being blocked like that (like say when there’s an accident or constructions where there’s orange cones to force cars to merge into another lane). It’s not very nice and with a bike lane there as well, why do they think that’s a good idea?

The footprint of the station building doesn't appear to have changed from the original plans, and the setback and bike lane is still there. The oval feature is a canopy roof that (if permitted) would partially cover the sidewalk and bike lane. You can see it illustrated better on the developer's website.

I believe it's just that the roof that hangs over the sidewalk.

I hadn't noticed this initially. It looks like they won't be restoring the CVG to cut diagonally across the site but to have it route in-front of the station then snake along Thornton to 1st. They do have a proposed bike route running along the north edge of the site under or adjacent to the Skytrain line which would result in a far better connection at Thornton St.

The green space surrounding the portal could make a nice little landscaped greenspace, obviously with adequate fencing.

Yes, this is the first we’ve seen or heard of the new proposal. Good to hear the hotel is still included.

https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/399-...way-emily-carr

That’s quadrupling the residential unit count while loosing about 50,000 sqft of office space from the current approved proposal. I assume “several hundred” will be an increase over the 197 or so hotel rooms in the current proposal.
Latest update on the Onni site

Quote:
Wlodarczak said his team is preparing to submit its updated rezoning application for the East 1st Avenue site.

”At this stage, the rezoning is to include (about) 300 live/work units, (about) 700 rental units, approximately 200 hotel rooms, 135,000 sq. ft. of office and 65,000 sq. ft. of retail,” he said. "We've got a really interesting program there. It’s really true mixed-use.”
https://renx.ca/onni-groups-towering...-1-finish-line

The DH article was 1000 homes. 80,000 sq feet of office, 35,000 sq feet retail

Seems like they updated their website too.

Nice. That site has been stalled out for some time. I guess we know why.

I would love to see more buildings built right up to each other like that. Now do it with taller buildings

They had announced stopping work on the low rise building when the Broadway Plan was introduced allowing for higher density.
