This image can be found at Cypress Construction website. The long horizontal
window lines are a minimalist effort to make the building look modern.
If in the beginning this was known to public, I would have preferred the original look
but with internal upgrades to bring it up to code and energy efficient.

If your also curious about the Annex of the State Capitol, this is pretty much
what it will look like. The proposed design is just the opposite what is
considered appropriate to capture historical values of the original historic building.

Update

The rebuild of State Building on O between 8th and 9 will (surprisingly) look clean and modern after all. The windows
will have a greenish tint. I didn’t bother with taking photos since I suspect the windows will go in quickly.
It’s worth the walk, ride or drive down there to see it But it looks like it will blend in with other State projects that have gone up over
the past few years.

I noticed that the lot (Lot X?) at 3rd & Capitol Mall now has fencing up. Hoping this is a good sign for the proposed apartment tower and not just a deterrent for the homeless that have been camping there.

Sounds like the Miwok tribe bought it. The Pascua Yaqui in Arizona bought land just north of downtown Tucson and after a couple years are turning it into a casino. Any chance for something like that here?

That's actually a different lot, the tribe bought 301 Capitol Mall. The site for the apartment Tower (Lot X) is 201 N St.

That's interesting. Thanks for the clarification. Hope something happens there!

Lot x is just that little spot with the former ramp right? It's not the whole chuck with the city parking lot is it?

It's the whole parking lot too. Lot X border is N st, 3rd st and Capitol Mall. I wonder of they will start construction soon 🤞

I check in like once a month now and pretty much see nothing. The entire Sacramento page should be closed down now. Don't you think? Mercy!

I think Sacramento forum can be rolled into the Bay Area forum with dedicated transportation; central city and greater metro area. But no, people rarely post because skyscrapers don’t happen in Sacramento.

I understand that but I like having our own section. I have been coming here for years. No need for the forum to have to do unnecessary work

I almost never comment but I check this section a couple times a week. Probably wouldn't if it got lumped in with the Bay since I'm not really interested in what goes on out there.

The Bay Area and the greater Sacramento area are way too far apart in distance to be realistically grouped together. Best to keep them separate.

Unlikely. The only proposal was from the Southern Land Company based in Nashville (which is undergoing a massive skyline transformation nearly the same scale as Austin). Southern Land Company decided to put the brakes
on the Sacramento project with the promise to reassess at a later date. Of course they did that in the middle of an apartment boom downtown so it doesn’t inspire confidence that the project will move forward. My guess is that they sell that property at some point. Hate to be the pessimist but these projects just don’t happen in Sacramento, I believe because our proximity to
other proven markets.

Well there’s still a lot happening in terms of central city residential development, also Airport construction and the eventual I street bridge replacement.

But what’s not happening is the high rise residential high rises in nearly every city but Sacramento. Hell Oklahoma City has a proposal for the tallest building in the United States (residential). If you listen to the debate, it’s sounding like it will happen. That said I can’t imagine any financier putting up the funds. Our luck, Cal PERS and Deutsch Bank will.

Anyway, it might be a long time before another high rise is built in Sacramento.

I can't speak about Oklahoma or some of the other cities, but downtown Sacramento is a complete dump. I don't want to work downtown, let alone live there. Tiffany, Gucci, Louis Vuitton etc are in Roseville. Why would you want to be downtown?

Just because there's high end stores in Roseville doesn't make it better than downtown. Sure downtown has its issues but it's not a complete dump. There's plenty to do during the day and night. The pandemic did affect some downtown businesses but things are slowly creeping back. There are new businesses and homes popping up left and right. This is certainly not the downtown Sacramento that I remember from the 90's.

Food, bars, music, people, stores, culture, not having to drive everywhere.
