Yes, they started building them right behind the Bronson ones, once those were completed.

The Self-Propelled Modular Transporter that moves these things parked itself right back where the Bronson bridges had been, awaiting the Percy ones. There is a clear path between Chamberlain and the highway (leftover from the stormwater retention tunnel project) from Bronson to Percy for it to crawl along in a few weeks.

Dear Ottawa motorists. You are not imagining things. It’s happening again.

The Queensway will undergo a third weekend closure in the span of less than a month, with the next shutdown running from Aug. 10 to 14 to allow for a rapid bridge replacement at Percy Street in the city centre.

The City of Ottawa announced Thursday that the provincial Ministry of Transportation would close sections of Highway 417 starting at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 10, with reopening set for 6 a.m on Monday, Aug. 14.

The closures will involve eastbound lanes of the highway between Carling/Kirkwood and Metcalfe, and westbound lanes between Metcalfe/Catherine and Bronson.

A handful of access ramps will also be closed: westbound at O’Connor and Lyon (ongoing); and eastbound at Maitland, Carling and Parkdale.

The city also issued maps detailing detours that will be in place during the Percy Street bridge replacement.



Westbound vehicles must:
• Exit the highway at Metcalfe/Catherine;
• Continue westbound on Catherine Street;
• Return to Highway 417 using the Bronson Avenue westbound access ramp.



Eastbound vehicles must:
• Exit the highway at Carling/Kirkwood;
• Continue eastbound on Carling Avenue;
• Turn right on Bronson Avenue;
• Take the ramp to eastbound Riverside Drive;
• Continue eastbound on Riverside Drive;
• Return to Highway 417 at the Riverside eastbound access ramp (just before the 417 bridge).

The city’s advisory also said transit information would be available online at octranspo.com/alerts, by calling 613-560-5000 or by following OC Transpo’s account on X (the new name for Twitter).

Updates on construction and roadwork activity as well as information about traffic and travel planning will be available on the city’s online traffic map or on its traffic account on X.

The Queensway was previously closed between July 13 and 17 for the replacement of an overpass at Bronson Avenue and between July 28 and 31 to allow for completion of a pedestrian bridge connected to Stage 2 of the LRT system.

Wow that's a brutal eastbound detour. Why aren't they allowing people to get back on at Metcalfe like they did for the Bronson Bridge replacement?

The Metcalfe onramp is not listed as closed but Chamberlain Avenue is, which rules out the usual Carling-Bronson-Chamberlain-Isabella eastbound detour.

There may be some requirement that the official detour follow arterial roads, which would preclude a signed eastbound detour anywhere through the Glebe or along Gladstone.

The eastbound right line just before the Parkdale exit has been “temporarily” closed for a while now. What’s up with that? It seems kinda arbitrary and I find that mildly irritating.

And this has led to bottlenecks and traffic jams eastbound before Parkdale basically at all times of day... for nothing!

Probably a safety thing? Maybe they feel it's safer to have the lanes merge together there rather than have people merging while others are trying to use the exit.

To be fair, the interchanges at Parkdale and at Rochester are very close. One of them (probably the latter) needs to be eliminated in the long term.

The partial closure of Highway 417 for the replacement of the Percy Street bridge that was set for this weekend has been cancelled.

The Ministry of Transportation confirmed Thursday that the project has been postponed.

The work was set to close eastbound lanes between Carling Avenue/Kirkwood Avenue and Metcalfe Street and westbound lanes between Metcalfe Street/Catherine Street and Bronson Avenue between 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, and 6 a.m. Monday, Aug. 14.

This follows two similar bridge replacements last month.

And here I thought the city and the province were being proactive together since at least one of the detours for the closure is closed due to flooding.

Of course not. Had the rebar been fine, they would have shut the 417 even when Heron and Riverside both are closed due to flooding. Because, why the heck would different levels of government actually coordinate in order to serve the public?

Edited to add: additional support for my disgust of intergovernmental cooperation, the transitway is being closed between Iris and Carling this weekend with buses detoured along Woodroffe. True Woodroffe is not one of the "official" detours but getting off there and taking the Mikan to downtown is a very good work around for the 417 being closed. So why not just add all the transitway buses to that traffic jam?

I thought all the 'temporary' closures were for the duration of the life-long construction that we're experiencing (5+ years).

I also thought all of the on-off ramps would be linked together on the final product: Carling-Parkdale, Parkdale-Rochester. Dirty double at Bronson, Dirty Double at Kent. (PLUS an additional thru-put lane?)

This is a planned closure for LRT construction and NOT flood repair. If it was due to the flooding, it would be closed now, and not at 9 p.m. tonight:

Friday, August 11 at 9 pm until Monday, August 14 at 6 am, routes 50, 58, 61, 62, 63, 64, 67, 74, 75, and 82 will be detoured due to the closure of Transitway from Iris Station to the J-Ramp for construction work. Please allow extra time for your travels.

Word from the Percy bridge worksite is that it's going in on the weekend of Sept 14-18. No official announcement yet, but that's likely to be the date for the highway shutdown.
