Quote:
For the Houston Astros, winning costs more than the MLB average this season

The amount MLB teams have paid for each of their wins through the first part of the 2023 season has varied significantly, with millions of dollars separating the highest and lowest costs per win.

Through the MLB All-Star break — just past the halfway point in the league’s 162-game season — the Houston Astros have a 50-41 record, in prime position for a playoff berth for the seventh-straight season. To get there, the team is shelling out a 2023 payroll of $191.46 million, 10th-highest in the league, according to sports contract tracker Sportrac.

That means through early July, the Astros have spent nearly $3.83 million for each of the team's 50 wins. Houston’s cost per win is the 12th-highest in the MLB, and it's only slightly more than the league average of $3.61 million.
