Not sure we have a thread for this or not, but opposition continues to be strong for the 1065 Paramount Drive application.

Upper Stoney Creek condo plan changes ‘missed mark’

A developer’s design changes did little to mollify angry opposition to a proposal to construct an eight-storey condominium apartment building on a vacant Paramount Drive lot between Billy Green and St. Paul schools in upper Stoney Creek.

John Ariens, planning consultant for proponent Mikmada Homes, told a June 27 neighbourhood meeting that revisions to the original 299-unit housing plan seek to address concerns residents raised in February about the condo building’s height.

The new design helps “soften” the apartment building’s mass by starting it at three storeys on Paramount Drive and having it rise in stages to five and eight storeys, reducing the number of units to 181 from 197, he said.

In return, it bumps the number of stacked townhouse units to 128 from 102 and now includes 44 four-storey, back-to-back stacked townhouse at the rear of the 1.6-hectare former church property — bringing the development’s overall total to 304.

Ariens said the revisions respond to concerns about overflow parking on surrounding streets by boosting the number of “parking stalls” to 441 from an original 319 — achieved by adding garages to 19 townhouse units and increasing underground spaces.
